Hello! I've readded the knockback mechanics back into the game, despite the fact that it's just (mostly) recycled code from the previous prototype. Not only that, I also readded the breath jellies, and this time I added the other two types (medium and large) alongside the small one. Lastly, I've made an enemy spawner, but its only purpose is to create a new popple should the one onscreen die. (I'll deal with the small poof clouds when I get back to working on the game...)

Anyways, that's all. I'm exhausted.

Hello!! Back with yet another devlog! This one's a bit smaller this time around, but I added currency to this game: Pix!



Pix can be used to buy new berries and powerups for, as well as other things (That I'll get into at some point). Currently, they can only be dropped from enemies, but they'll also be obtained through other means. Also, I have made a new Startree tileset, but I'll probably need to refine it further because it looks wonky... yeah.

I can't put my finger on why but something about the physics so far feel very Ikachan/early Amaya-core to me... good stuff.

Then again that concept might be informed by my getting back into Cave Story lately  :tongue:

Hello again, guys!! I didn't get to make a devlog on here because I uploaded this footage late last night and I was too tired, so without further ado, here's the latest footage:



Again, nothing too major, but here's what I've done this week (copypasted from the video description because I'm too lazy to type this out by hand):

* I've moved the Pix counter at the bottom of the screen, right next to the breath bar. This was suggested by someone over at the Game Maker Discord.
* Mimo's invincibility now decreases after being hurt. Flashing isn't working as intended (He just becomes pure white), though I don't have time to fix it now.
* Popples can flash briefly when hurt too.
* Pix can disappear if not picked up for too long.

Finally, after a week of no prototype footage, I am back with one.

I know some of you saw a preview of the pause screen before, but I finally finished it! It could do some adjusting (i.e. have keyboard functions for the buttons instead of needing a mouse to select them), but the only real problem is that the text on the button objects is behind them rather than in front, but unfortunately it seems to be a universal bug for Game Maker’s new UI layer feature, so I can’t fix that unless it gets patched for real. Anywayssss I am working on a settings menu as well.

Also, Mimosa can now flash the way I wanted him to when he gets hurt. Previously, I couldn’t figure out why he stays white for a few seconds, but thank god I fixed that.

Lastly, I updated the title screen to have a vignette filter surrounding the game’s title and the “Press Any Key” text.

So, since the last video I uploaded, I’ve been working on the game’s  world map. The footage I’m showing off right now is the world map in an  unfinished and unpolished state, but I’m just demonstrating how freely  Mimo can roam on the world map. Mimo also gets to ride the happy boat if  he touches water.


The screenshot above is what it looks like with all the walls and the water objects visible (it’s from yesterday, and it has been altered since)

The idea of having a world map came to be not long after I decided to make Mimogame into an Action-Adventure platformer instead of a Metroidvania like I initially wanted it to be. I’ll get it polished and add more sauce to it eventually.

Happy Screenshot Saturday!

After showing off the world map in the previous video, I have made some alterations into it, including adding a proper background to the map, adjusting the landform placements somewhat, and edited the invisible walls and activators that replaces mimo's sprites with the Happy Boat.

And speaking of sprites, Mimosa finally has proper overworld sprites! He can also run in the world map as well.

Lastly, Mimosa can now leave the level he's currently in by exiting through the world map. Currently, there's a bug where the pause screen wouldn't show up at all after entering a level via the world map, but even though it was the result of the way I coded the level icon, I can't seem to find a fix for it.

(note: the really loud "OK" sfx at 0:10 was unintentional)

I brought the Timelock mechanic back on this build. The video where I first showed off this mechanic was my most viewed video on this channel until this video surpassed it by a few, so I think it feels like a good time to upload a new video on it. It still functions the same as before, but here are a few changes or things of note:

Timelock now causes a background to appear when activated, temporarily replacing the background of the current area. (It would've had a ripple effect, but I don't want to give players nausea...)
The door of time no longer emits an aura when not in use.
Currently, manually deactivating the door of time is broken, but I'll get it fixed at some point.
Multiple doors of time can appear in one room. However, you can only activate one of them unless the timelock runs out.

Also, I added a bonus puzzle room that has you freeze ultra-speedy roserings with a door of time to temporarily have them stop at a specific, randomized spot in order to proceed. The timelock in said room is a lot shorter though!

(I'll be taking a break from working on the game this week. April has been busy for me.)
