dim here! excited to have been accepted. forums were a great part of my life growing up, and this seems like a fantastic community .
i am a brand new webmaster (haven't coded since i was in high school!) and generally a lover of the web and all things computer. i try to code a bit every day for my new neocities page, but i am also in exam season right now so it can be hard (but sooo tempting :seal:).

other things i am greatly passionate about:
  • psychology - my field of study and work. i am infamous for being obsessed with people and all that has to do with them
  • analog & shitty digital photography
  • writing (poetry and journal / prose poetry, mainly)
  • independent journalism
  • music production (i use ableton)
  • CD collection and playlist curation (fancy way to say 'making mixtapes', i guess?)
  • gardening
  • reading, mainly non-fiction
  • fashion
  • snail mail (i am a postcrosser and frequently send and receive postcards and letters)
  • raw vegetables as snacks
  • online communities, obscure webpages, obscure web graphics, obscure software
  • obsessed with people's homes and objects - i am actually working on a little documentary series about this right now, wherein i will curiously visit people's homes and make an episode out of whatever comes of it
  • bartending at my local punky squat rave cave
  • google maps, geoguessr, collecting interesting google street view pictures
  • daytrips to random places
  • languages and accents
  • the number 14

i am 25, i live in europe, and i am currently a student. previously, i have worked in the video game industry in various corporate and indie positions. eventually, though, i decided i wanted to be a psychologist instead, haha.
i have not yet decorated my room on the forum, but i intend to :) i am trying to focus on my exams and deadlines right now, and actually adding some pages to my own website; it's only a few days old, really, but i have super ambitious plans for it.

looking forward to hanging out here! have a good day :)

Hello and welcome, dim! Fun to see a fellow psychologist here. Do you have any sort of specialisation or part of the field that you are particularly interested in? Good luck with your exams. If you ever need some help with something related to child development, hit me up. :ok:

thanks for the warm welcome, and also for the help offer :) indeed, cool to find a peer so quickly!

i am mostly interested in humanistic-integrative psychotherapy for individuals outside of a clinical setting (not a huge fan of the current way pathology and diagnostic are applied as concepts), and relationship therapy (i especially like EFT literature on the topic). i think i am much more into adult development than child-, haha.

Each their own. :) Sounds like you are way more in the realm of applied psychology, which is really cool! Do you still have to do an internship?

I do still have to do practical stages, yeah. :) My bachelors was actually very research-oriented, but it definitely made me realize my disillusionment with psychology as a research field, philosophically and methodologically. So, I feel pretty sure I'd like to just be a therapist of sorts, and it would fulfill me most.

hello dim! looking forward to seeing the development of your website :wizard: i like psychology too, i just have 2 semesters left to complete my bachelors. i am curious to hear more about your psychological interests. your aforementioned psychotherapy interest sounds cool!!! i agree that psychopathology and diagnostic stuff is in a kinda weird spot... so far, i am most interested in social psychology (and anything adjacent, like sociology of culture). especially in the realm of subcultures, online communities, etc, but i like it in general  :4u: i am pretty inexperienced though hahaha. my only social psychology course was not very educative :ohdear:

out of curiosity, what draws you to the number 14?

thanks for the excitement about my website! :)

i like anthropology and culture-related things too, that's nice! i had some social psychology courses too, in a bachelor's it's always very basic, eh? indeed.

not sure what more i could mention unprompted about my interests than i already did in my main post and the one you're responding to! haha. and, no worries, i am also inexperienced. ain't no shame in that. if you like the topic, you can always delve deeper into it - i highly recommend just buying a book by an expert whose theory interested you and reading in your spare time. that always gets the inspiration flowing a lot better than courses for me.

the number 14! well, as a child, i decided it was going to be my lucky number after my grandfather passed away, as that was his birth date. it was really arbitrary, and i didn't put that much stock into it as i grew older, but then i realized that it kept showing up for me everywhere! i even won the spot to rent my current apartment in a lottery-type system "because" i applied to rent the flat (of many identical ones with the same number of applicants) whose number contained 14, haha. it's just been showing up a lot for me over the years, and i've been choosing to take it as a good sign. so it has been! it also really pleases me to see, read and write it. so i feel some kind of a bond with it now.

congrats on that personal profile award btw :) even though it's a bit old now, i suppose.

Hello and welcome to the melonland forums !

Wow, what an intro, I'm genuinely impressed ! I did postcrossing for a couple of years, it was fun but the rise of international stamps made it difficult to sustain financially. I was a bit tight at the moment. I should send one or two sometimes, it was fun, I've got mail from all over the planet...

aw, thanks for the nice comment! i think i just like describing myself, haha. indeed, postcrossing is so fun! too bad if it's too expensive for you :/ yeah, maybe it's a good idea to just send one or two when you can! i myself haven't been super active either, but i still try to now and then. makes me so happy to receive something thoughtful, and to scrapbook a bit on a card for someone, hehe. i've also showcased all my received postcards on my wall in my flat, and it's a feature everyone loves, haha.
