Bjørnstigen is a little game I built on top of
Venzone, which is a libre/open source platformer game.
I attempted to use the platformer formula for a narration-focused game: The game is based on a real experience. Difficult passages, hard jumps, and stressing situations try to evoke the feelings, the tiredness, and the tension that I felt back then - so, I took some liberties :).
Venzone allows to create rooms using an text editor, quite similar to making ASCII art using notepad - neighboring rooms then can be linked, to create a map. While the process of designing levels is rather easy, making them good (and challenging while still fun to play with the low internal resolution - it is a terminal game after all - in mind) required a bit of tinkering - but it seemingly all worked out, as the feedback from my test players was great :). The game is, however, on the more difficult side, and I recommend to beat the base game before tackling it.
Bjørnstigen can be downloaded either on
Itch or from our
page - a version that is bundled with the main game is available there.
Have fun!
