What are your thoughts or hopes for the Nintendo Switch 2?

So the first look at Nintendo Switch 2 has been released and even though there is no specific release date yet it seems to be pretty close. What are your thoughts so far on the design of this switch? Do you plan on getting it when it's released or wait until we see which games will be available?

I probably won't get it since I don't use my normal switch that much anymore. Although... I have a feeling Pokémon Legends ZA will only be available for the Switch 2... kinda wanted to play it a lot.

As for the design I personally do not like it 
Like... I feel like the "2" does not fit with the logo at all and maybe that's on purpose, to create sort of a contrast or an impact but idk to me it feels like a fake console that someone imagined for fun and edited the 2 on the side. Even the name "Nintendo Switch 2" feels weird and unimportant.

But what are your thoughts? Do you have high hopes for this console?

I hope they bring back themes like they had with the 3ds! And background music in the menus/apps. Just a less boring menu than the Switch . Maybe more stuff with Miis, but I doubt it.

I like the animation in the video, it's like a magical girl transformation sequence. The console itself looks great, but I'm probably going to hold off until they have a couple of games I really want to play + a lite version.

In all honesty, I had just woke up and it felt like a fever dream when I saw the trailer. Thought it was fake at first since it was just the already existing leaks.

HOWEVER, I do believe that the design of the console itself fixes many problems that I had with the console. Personally, my hands are HUGE, I can barely hold Joycons, let alone one of them in both hands. I'm really happy that the size of the console is increasing.
Also, another complaint that I have with a lot of consoles, not just the switch, is that you cannot use a mouse and keyboard on them. This has been a big issue with the Switch because I can't even play its games on PC officially. It looks like the Switch 2's Joycons can be used on their sides like a mouse, and I am very excited to use that.

Also, the new Mario Kart looks cool, I've been calling it Mario Kart X, and it looks pretty cool.

Yeah, I totally agree that the name sucks, but I was talking to my friend about it, and the problem is that everyone has been calling it the Nintendo Switch 2 for so long, it would've caused whiplash. Think like how the Xbox 360 successor was called the Xbox 720 by fans before the Xbox One came out. So I just think Nintendo is playing it safe, which I don't really like, but I can understand.

Overall, my hopes for the Switch 2 is:

• Achievements
• Better Online Servers
• More customization (themes, controls, etc.)

I'm sad that they got rid of the colored JoyCons! I'm so sick of minimalist design trends. Rahh! But everything else is looking good. Hooray for backwards compatibility!

My hopes for this console are:

• Be notably more powerful than the Switch, better battery life, and improved online servers. The Switch is around 8 years old now, so it pretty desperately needs an upgrade in these regards. (Leaks I've seen says the power upgrade is happening!)
• A built-in way to stream your games (one that isn't paywalled, either, Nintendo). I'm sick to death of capture cards.
• Fix the Joycon drift situation. I assume this is a given, considering how much shit Nintendo has gotten for it, but you never know.
• Music for the eShop, and other such menus.
• THEMES OTHER THAN BLACK AND WHITE. PLEASE. PLEASE. Is that so much to ask? The 3DS shop was fantastic with having a diverse array of amazing themes! They were paid for (so Nintendo was even making money from them), but cheap enough that the average person could afford them without much issue. The "personality" of the Switch is absolutely abysmal compared to the likes of the 3DS and Wii (an issue that the lack of music for the eShop and menus worsens). Bring back the Nintendo charm!

Nintendo did me dirty personally

I had a fork of yuzu I forgot about, and while on I was on holiday they decided to report me to gitlab for it. I was on holiday and I wasn't f****** checking email, so it resulted in having my account banned and me struggling to get it back (I eventually did).

I still stand by the fact that yuzu and any other emulator is perfectly legal and has a right to exist. The fact that nintendo ignores the law just because they have a metric f***ton of money and can drag you into a lawsuit until you're ruined is a perfect symbol of what's wrong with our society.

I mean, true and based, but this isn't really the thread for discussing Nintendo's shitty copyright-related practices. Perhaps this topic is better suited for you to make a new thread about!

There are so many consoles in this form factor now that I really don't think anyone should be paying Nintendo game prices to play on one; plus the more open options that run linux or even windows allow indie game makers to skip the stress and cost of publishing, which is something I'd like to support more these days. (Having seen how the indie and linux community grew around the SteamDeck I've really changed my mind about the value of having open gaming platforms).

I'm sure it will sell well; it's a simple well rounded ecosystem, a lot like an iPhone for games. For me though, I don't want an iPhone of games; I want my weird experimental Nintendo that puts 2 screens on things, or makes things 3D, or makes all the discs tiny just because it's cool!

I prob won't be buying a main Switch 2; but when they release a Switch Mini 2, and there is a new Animal Crossing on the horizon I might upgrade my old switch then. I don't want a bigger switch; the SteamDeck is much too big, and the small size of the 3DS is why I still take it with me on trips 

I really agree with everyone about the themes and music being missing (though I feel like people on this forum would have a bias towards that  ). Even Apple allow more customisation than Nintendo these days!

Anyway, I'm mostly disappointed that I have to be a grump about this one; I would love to be really excited for a cool new game console; but this one is just boring; and that seems like the greatest crime for a games system to commit!

I expect Pokémon Legends ZA to be playable on the Switch 1. GameFreak has done this before, releasing games at the end of the console cycle (Pokémon Ultra Sun/Moon in 2017).

That aside, I hope there's a significant power boost that actually makes the upgrade worthwhile. Design-wise it looks a bit more like the Steam Deck (I assume they are trying to emulate that premium look). That said I am quite disappointed that it doesn't seem like the joycons got some ergonomic upgrade, which the Steam Deck has. I can see the size increase being a bonus for people with large hands but I already struggle with holding the Switch in portable mode for extended periods of time. It feels like a missed chance.

For me, there's no reason to update anytime soon, even if my joycons are frustrating and the lag can be exhausting. But in case I do, I am happy that there is backwards compatibility, so that I don't need to own two of these things.

definitely curious about the switch 2, but I'll be in no rush to buy it personally. there aren't too many nintendo-exclusive series I'm a diehard for, and most non-exclusives I'd rather play on my pc anyway, so it's hard to justify the cost. so I'm in about the same position you are, xanoverse: I really want to play ZA, but across my switch's entire lifespan it's been gaps of months if not a year between the occasional game I'm interested in. so idk, I'll probably wait for a price drop or cheaper model unless they've got something really interesting cooking. (this is a PSA to nintendo, if you release a new rhythm heaven game I will buy your console day 1. please. it's been 10 years.)

also, ditto on the customization and extras, I've always missed that fun spirit in the jump from the 3ds to the switch!

Let me preface by saying that I haven't bought a new console since... Well, I've never bought a console. My last console was a PS3 as a Christmas present when I was a teen. I had a few Nintendo consoles growing up, they were all Christmas presents as well, but once I started making my own money and needing to buy my own consoles and games, the appeal was lost on me. It made way more sense to just buy games for my PC since I already had a PC.    This is when I got onto Steam as well. There was just a huge library of games to play for much cheaper so I had no interest in any consoles. So with that said, I am obviously not the demographic for the Switch 2, and Nintendo probably couldn't care less about people like me 

With that said... Why is the Switch 2 so sleek and minimalist...? I really enjoyed the look of the Switch, it looked like a toy. I loved it when consoles were see-through and green and blue and wacky colors. I'm pretty disappointed by the look of it. 

The trailer didn't really show much, so as of right now, I think it'll just be a more powerful Switch. It would be nice to see some other features, time will tell. 

My husband is very much looking forward to it, he loves new games and consoles and such and is very much into new "toys"  So he'll be happy either way, tbh! He has been wanting achievements to be added to the Switch for a while, so I do hope they add that!! And the joycons possibly being used as a mouse is REALLY interesting to me. I think that would be a great step.

Its basically what I expected form all the leaks and rumors floating about. One thing beyond a compelling software library that the switch 2 needs is to bring back the fun colors for systems.  Im so tired of of just grey and black consoles. I want fun colors.

Honestly, I'm not too impressed by it. If they came up with something a bit more unique and original, I probably would be more into it. But to just make minimal design changes, hardware upgrades, controller changes, and have it be known as a "sequel" to an already pre-existing console has me not too excited about it.

With my criticism out of the way, one improvement that I would absolutely love to see with the Switch 2 is Custom Themes!! On the original Switch, there's a themes section in the settings menu that for years has only had two options: Light and Dark. If Nintendo could make custom themes on the Switch 2 happen, then that would be very awesome. I never got why they had a dedicated options menu for it on the original Switch without releasing any custom themes. Also, the kickstand on the back that they show in the video looks much better and more stable than the one on the original Switch. I always felt that the original Switch's kickstand was flimsy and broke too easily. So glad to see that upgraded.

Just watched the video. No thank you. It mostly just looks the OG Switch but bigger. Okay...? I don't really have plans to get it until the current Switch is phased out like the 3DS, Wii U, etc. were. Hopefully there will be dual releases of future games, like how Twilight Princess was released on Gamecube and Wii, and there will be a way to transfer your data/eShop purchases to a Switch 2 when I do have to make the jump...

If anything I hope there's an offline virtual console. I hated how N64 games were only available via Online, I want to just buy an old game and keep it like the Wii, 3DS, and Wii U could. When the inevitable Switch 2 Lite drops, I also hope it has a better battery life. I currently play on a Lite, and it drains so fast I either have to keep it plugged in, or use a third party add-on to keep it charging... (Pocket Juice, btw. I recommend it.)
