hello. this is mostly me shouting in the void, because i desperately need to know if there are people out there like me.

i have always, always, always adored legacy challenges. i mean the original legacy challenge, with the most basic ruleset, that was super common in the sims 2/3 days. i loved playing them, of course, but i especially loved reading them. and when i say "loved", i really do mean it feels like a thing of the past-- i used to read them back in 2010-2014, when blogs were extremely common and everyone created their own little storyline for their sims. some people just followed regular lives, with a hint of humor, some of them added the "creator" as a person that interacted with their sims like some sort of god, and some of them were incredibly dramatic and storytelling focused. they were works of passion, that took ages to create and maintain, and were rarely completed.

a few years ago, i found myself longing for childhood favorites of mine, before finding 99% of my favorite legacy challenges to read were nuked from existence through forum and blog closures. if any french person finds this, we had the "jeuxvideo.com blogs" that my absolute favorite was hosted on, before eventually they got rid of the feature altogether, along with every single blog ever created. same thing goes for "skyblogs", where me and my friends hosted our very own. they're lost forever now, and it hurts my heart very much.

these days, i struggle to find any similar stories. most legacy challenges hosted on blogs these days are ~10 years old, not updated anymore. i can't find a source for new ones, and i can't read legacy challenges hosted on tumblr blogs at all- i find tumblr to be the worst possible place to host something like that. it just makes post navigation extremely difficult.

nevertheless, i have started my own legacy challenge on the sims 3 a few years ago. you can find the family tree attached- the founders are westley and buttercup from the princess bride, and i've created my own little insane storyline for them. i'm only at gen3 so far, but that's further than i ever got when i was a child, so i'm so very proud of myself for it! i've been thinking i might start my own old-timey legacy challenge story on my neocities website!

do you have a legacy challenge family? did you read those stories the way i did so much when you were younger?? do you have suggestions for where i might find such stories today?! even better, do you have your own?!!

please, tell me!

You probably came to the right place asking people who know how to explore the Web outside of the standard algorithms  :ok:

In the middle of reading this, it got me thinking of the websites that have long searchable archives of posts & blogs like this, and sure enough, there are several LiveJournal communities like this one that still have legacy Sims challenges in their feeds. The one linked has a latest post that's earlier this month, too! On LiveJournal, you can search by interest, and here's the search result for the "sims" interest. Remember to hit "View all" if you're wanting to browse the communities  :ozwomp:

There's also the website Dreamwidth, which has a search-by-interest feature and has legacy style & challenges in its own community search results for Sims. If you don't find what you're looking for, try asking people in the Sims communities that are there, since they'll probably either have leads to other communities or would be willing to participate in a new community!

In any case, I think blog sites of the 2000s & 2010s are your first big lead to finding more of these. Happy Simming!  :cheerR:

You might check out the ModTheSims forums here:
https://modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=553

They have it split into the different games, and under each is a challenge section. They don't always post people playing the challenges themselves, but frequently people who are playing through them will post links to their blogs/tumblr posts detailing their playthroughs. They are surprisingly active even today!

If you ever post yours to your site, I'd love to see it! I love reading through stuff like that, and I always enjoy a good legacy (or rags to riches) challenge.

I, myself, had a couple legacy challenges on Tumblr. To be fair, that site's been getting slowly but significantly worse to use, especially on desktop and especially if you're not logged in. It used to be that you could go on a blog, click a specific tag, add /chrono to the end of the URL, and then read all of the posts in chronological order. Not so anymore, apparently--unless I'm doing it wrong. Also, going back to my old legacy blogs, somehow Tumblr has made them all look... bad. Columns on either side telling me to sign up for the site, a banner on the bottom telling me the same, and of course a pop up that says "Sign up, sign up, sign up!!!" if I scroll down more than half a post.

Well, I can't help you with finding new ones, but if you want something nostalgic, here's an archive of The Uglacy by Candi020765 from Sims 2. Other than that, good luck on your quest to find new ones!!

I don't have a collection of legacy challenges anywhere or search ideas, but I did write a Sims 4 legacy challenge a little while ago after I realized that Alex Moyer is programmed to be immortal: The Immortal Alex Moyer Legacy Challenge.

I've been through several generations so far. The yard is full of frogs and tombstones and I'm loving it, lol.

Not Sims related, but I've been thinking of recording my playthroughs of other games with personalized rules somewhere on my website: glad to see I'm not the only one!

I do want to check what's been shown here so far to see how other people do it, and for storyline inspiration (I am not good at writing  :drat: )

Thank you Mezucore for bringing this up, and for the rest of posters for bringing in new Sims storylines!  :ok:
