how to get more in touch with your city and reach other people like you?

for reference im in highschool and really want to start a band, but i dont really know anyone in my area that shares my taste. i live in a relatively big city though i dont go downtown often. my current plan is to put posters around and hope for the best but idk how well thatll work out given how online we generally are. im not gonna share where i live for obvious reasons but does anyone know any tips for reaching people in my city, places that often have bulletin boards, websites/forums for local areas, etc? thanks in advance ^_^

that's a very interesting question and i'd love to spectate this thread and it's answers.

as you've already mentioned, bulletin boards are a very nice way to go. i'd pin my posters at different places to reach out to people with common interests, be specific with the information like your genre, bands you like, instruments you play and contact information like an e-mail-address. But avoid giving out your phone number initially. If you have a soundCloud or youtube, a qr-code would also be very nice. And be proactive about it, reach out to people you would like to join your band.

does your school has a music-club or some other school-activities related to music? this would be my first place to go

That is hard to answer.

Maybe look for Social Clubs that align with your interest. Some Cities provide a Clubs Section on their Web Page. Or maybe Facebook? It is a shitty Platform, but they do still have the whole local Groups thing that might be of Help.

Some Cities offer Youth Centers where People can meetup, maybe you'll find people who are Interested there. They also often have bulletin Boards you can pin your flyer up.

Lastly you can ask your School, they often have Resources about offerings in your local Area.

Beyond online boards for people local to your area (like Nextdoor) or school music clubs, I would also look for bulletin boards where musicians tend to congregate (e.g.: music stores, record shops, concert halls, etc.) and leave a poster with relevant information on it like azrael and crazyroostereye suggest. If there is no bulletin board, I would directly ask the people who are operating those places if I could tape it on the window near the front door. It might also be helpful to ask if they know of any other musicians that have recently expressed interest in joining or forming a band. Social connections are often formed naturally as people chat.

Also consider where you will regularly meet up and play together after you've met people who share similar musical tastes and desire to jam. But whatever happens, even if those people remain elusive, keep playing and enjoying music.
