Hello :mark:
I enjoy writing blogs on my website since I enjoy the big and lengthy space to get some thoughts across, however recently I have been struggling with coming up with ideas as to what to write about. On my blog so far I've written stuff from opinion pieces, to reviews to my own personal feelings about my life. I'm just wondering how my fellow blog writers think about their ideas for their blogs (drop some links too as i'd love to read them) :ozwomp:

(also here's the link to my blog) :ok:

Some recurring "sources" of blog post topics for me:

  • projects I'm currently working on, at work or home
  • messed-up stories from my past that something made me remember
  • some decision I recently made and why I made it
  • some website, tool, or other thing I found helpful (or not) and why it helped (or didn't)
  • my response to some news article, meme, or trending idea
  • summary/report of how my life is going right now
  • link to something cool I found or read online

If you want to see these in action, my blog is here: https://drmollytov.dev/posts
Collection of past blog posts: https://drmollytov.dev/postdump

Honestly, I don't feel like I find ideas so much as they find me. And breed. I have a running list in my notebook of things I'd like to write about, and I only ever get to about a third of them.

Edit: I wrote a blog post about this: https://drmollytov.dev/2025-03-23  lol

I write about all sorts of things on my blog. Still wanna write about a new switch "game" I got recently bought, I have a lot to say :D I generally write about my hobbies and share thoughts. My life isn't exciting whatsoever, I'd find it rather depressing to write about that lol so it's topics I'm passionate about. Anything I like to share and anything I can say something to. Occasionally I also use my blog for personal projects and resources (drawing any species post for example or the code tips/web design talk). There are endless topics you could write about. I think its mostly fun to write about something you like, wanna share or elaborate on. For me personally its art and ocs 90% of the time.

Here's what I've used my blog for with examples if that helps!

I think it is also important to remember that you don't have to blog on a schedule if you don't want to. If you're struggling to come up with something you can take your time. It's your personal site/blog where the pressure to perform is next to nil compared to the weight it holds on social media platforms.

But also you can just blog about something idle if you want. Again, the pressure is off and you could just write about what you had for lunch if you want.

Oh! But if you're looking for something to give you a reason to blog right now, consider yourself tagged in the Blog Questions Challenge, @Yuvi !

I just realized that the runes section on my site technically functions as a blog, I just consider it closer to articles / opinion pieces and call it something else because... Well it's an inside joke lol.

My deciding factor for what to write about is if it can generate enough paragraphs, and if I have enough things to say about the subject that isn't pure rambling or boring 101 info. I have school essay standards for the former, my limit is at least 4 or 5 paragraphs, but I do have some exceptions that I let slide because the subject is niche enough. The pages I've written and seem to be received the best are sharing opinions or information about things I'm passionate about. If you don't feel inspired, you don't have to continue. Be self-indulgent and write in a way that you're speaking uninterrupted to an audience.

Edit: I wrote a blog post about this: https://drmollytov.dev/2025-03-23  lol

I'm going to steal the idea of writing a blog about why I'm finding it so difficult to write a blog! Thank you so much :)
Your blog post was an enjoyable read and gave some some inspiration! I have this rss feed that i havent added as a button on my site yet as well if you'd like to know when i publish it

My life isn't exciting whatsoever, I'd find it rather depressing to write about that lol

Haha... yeah I'm kinda in the same boat as you! Ever since I graduated Highschool and started looking for a job theres never much to really do. Even if it doesnt directly affect what I talk about I feel like staying home so frequently isn't really doing much good for my inspiration haha :drat: . Wait maybe I should write about that in my next blog post...

I think it is also important to remember that you don't have to blog on a schedule if you don't want to. If you're struggling to come up with something you can take your time. It's your personal site/blog where the pressure to perform is next to nil compared to the weight it holds on social media platforms.

You're right! I think part of the reason I want to write one so bad is the fact that I haven't written one since last year.. But it doesn't change for me that I really want to write a new blog post too! Now that I've also found the right inspiration especially :mark:

Be self-indulgent and write in a way that you're speaking uninterrupted to an audience.

I definitely enjoy doing that! At the end of the day its my blog and i can write whatever the hell I want!

That's awesome! I'm glad you found a good subject.

This makes me wonder if it would be helpful to set up a thread of blog prompts that people could then share their related blog posts in. Not something I want to organize personally, but if someone else wants to take that on. Or maybe there is an old thread buried deep the the forum waiting to be necro'd.

Before I made my own website, I considered myself to be an non-talkative person, I'm silent and introverted among my classmates, so naturally I don't have much to say.

But it turns out, I have accumulated so many topics and thoughts in my head, when I have to bring them up, I can write so many words talking about it.

To find a new topic to talk about, I often find inspiration around the things I encounter, maybe about food, opinions about a new show/game, or maybe just ramble about what kind of tv tropes I hate.

As long as the topic makes me interested slightly, I can write around 500 words, depending on my knowledge on said topic.

If you want to find any blog topics, maybe you can try thinking about your daily life and find whatever things that might be a little special. But honestly, if you don't have much inspirations (I actually havent written much blogs lately), there's no need to rush, ideas tend to come naturally.
