For your videos, projects and anything that comes to mind  :unite: Let's discuss the power of copyright-free music (& sound effects) here!

There's already a topic on free resources to CREATE music. Which is cool and good (and why I link to it here too), but I'd like this topic to discuss free pieces of music to use "out of the box"  :ok:

Here's what little I found so far, in terms of general websites:

Free Music

Free Sound Effects

As with always, read the labels first before downloading! Creative Commons doesn't necessarily mean it's up for grabs for whatever you have in mind.

While I like to list free resources, and of course, feel free to contribute more, I'd especially love it if you were to share specific authors or pieces you like. Because one thing I've noticed, not with these resources but with a "bank" I had while working, is that a lot of free music can sound... generic. Uninspired. It doesn't fire the happy music-loving neurons of my brain (and I have a lot of those  ) So if anybody has found a gem already I'd love for them to share with the class

As an baby gamedev, I have quite a few places I like to get music! There's a pretty decent amount on itch.io (usually stuff specifically tailored for game development), and I personally really love dova-syndrome, which has both music and SFX! A lot of my game dev acquaintances also use soundimage.org, which has, as its name implies, music and image textures.

In terms of specific tracks, Ghosts I-IV by Nine Inch Nails was released under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license, which means that, if you give them credit, distribute derivative works only under an identical license, and release it for noncommercial purposes, it's free to use! Pretty cool.
