i wonder if there are online spaces for playing ttrpg sessions? like forums, discord (T_T) servers, xmpp/matrix servers?
i see this topic on giatitp forum, but it all looks so serious and intimidating! as for a person who NEVER played any ttrpg, it looks scary!

i think video/voice meetings are worth mentioning just in case some people will find this topic, but i personally would prefer text. i have an accent and i'm not a native english speaker, so it would be pretty hard for me to catch up with live voice meeting.  :drat:
or if! you know Ukrainian communities, then i'd be okay with the voice! :D

i've heard about post-by-post games, but all these threads and communities look so... i dunno, "professional", if that makes sense? i know there are beginner-friendly groups, for sure, but most of the times i see people who are somehow experienced with it.

i mentioned roleplaying: yes, i'm interested roleplaying on fantasy (high-, low-, dark-) themes too, maybe it's less, um... complex and stressful? though DnD system (or at least the aspect of classes, abilities and some kind of limitations in gameplay, maybe?) would be preferable. you can share communities with more free roleplaying too, also just in case other people will browse this topic later.

original (or DnD's) worldbuilding preferable, because my list of fandoms is pretty restricted. maybe only about TES (The Elder Scrolls) and DA (Dragon Age).

upd: this topic seems kinda similar. adding just in case someone needs it.

I really get that feeling of self consciousness that comes from comparing yourself to other roleplayers.

I'm also looking for a start in PbP roleplaying somewhere. I started looking at a couple different sites around October last year and one of the sites that stood out was Myth Weavers (https://www.myth-weavers.com/). From what I can gather it was built off of the community of TTRPG PbP players with the purpose of implementing features like a front-page ad system and character sheet builder/tracker. As for the games advertised, DnD 3.5E and Pathfinder 1E seem to be the most popular but I've seen other systems like GURPS and VtM come up, as well as GM's looking to introduce a group of players to a lesser known system.

One piece of friendly advice I got under my introduction thread post was "I recommend to lurk the site, and see what games there are and how PbP works in general. It is a quite different play style compared to an IRL table, but it allows for more character development if you are into it imho." But I haven't really found it helpful yet. One of the more daunting things to me is not knowing whether I'll be able to hold up good roleplay synergy with the other players and all the twists that come up.

I feel like I should make a thread on one of these sites asking "How did you make your first RP character?" and "How do you come up with backstory/motivation?" and "What was your first PbP roleplay like?". But in the meantime I'm still waiting for a game system that piques my curiosity to pop up, along with a GM I reckon I could vibe with.

Good luck to us I guess.

"Well you're limiting the universe by limiting the possibility of human understanding."
"Oh yeah... maybe."
