Hello, all! You can call me Rod or Shark. It's been a long time since I've been on forums and it makes me feel shy and nervous all over again.

I've been dipping my toe into learning about the indie web and even started making my own website. It's a slow process while I learn to make time for it alongside my art and my job, but I'm really enjoying the process so far. I wanted to surround myself with likeminded peeps, which is why I finally made the leap to apply and join this forum. I'm really happy to have been accepted, so thank you! :D

While I get myself familiar with using forums again, could anyone who decides to respond tell me what their favorite part about the forums are, and share any tips you think would be useful or make my time more fun? Doesn't have to be just this forum, but forums in general! For example, I see there are rules for stuff you can have in your signature, but how do y'all go about making anything for a signature? Is it straight forward? :O Do you use image resizers or make the images in small canvas sizes? I'd love to know anything you have to share!

And I'll see some of you around these parts while I explore around!   (I love these little emotes at the top of the chat box!! How was that added? That's so cute and cool!)

I'm a furry and that shark is my fursona. His name is Slumber. I hope to make more art of him to share and make a proper profile pic with him and some other characters in the future. I just don't know how to paint or draw something at the small scale the profile pic needs to be in...

HMm.. Yes! Drawing small is quite hard!

But my suggestion is to draw the PFP at a 500 X 500 ratio, then size it down to 50X50. Maybe that could make it easier for you to make a pfp? but i have to warn you that it makes it quite LQ!

Welcome to the forum! Good questions to ask. I think one of the most important things to bear in mind in the difference between 'newer' forms of social interaction online is the pace. Forums move slowly by design, and your replies to threads and original posts should reflect this. Take your time with writing to fully compose your thought before hitting send. You don't need to spend hours on each post by any means, but at least consider for a few minutes rather than a split second like you would a discord message or tweet.
As for your signature/avatar, just crop + resize something you've already drawn! Unless you're doing pixel art I wouldn't worry about working at the exact dimensions
