Wanna preface this with the funniest thing i could preference it with, but also the most important: i havent played yiik. ive only played the demo of the updated version, but i didnt even finish that. I do, however, feel entitled to discuss its narrative, of which i've seen a myriad of times.

I really like yiik! i see a lot of people hate on it for reasons that are either a rumor theyve heard or details about it that dont make a game bad necessarily. I don't think i've ever heard a real argument for why its bad other than "the writings kinda wonky", just an argument for why its not for certain people. I wanna get more insight onto why people think its bad, because it seems to have gotten unanimous disapproval from everyone until I.V came out, even though the games story is the same, just with added content. Im interested in this as a phenomenon as well as a preferance. Let me know what you think!

Most of it had to do with how the creator handled constructive criticism on the original version.

To put short he could not wrap his head around the fact there were people who didn't like it and either went on full damage control or doubled down with what he envisioned. I don't exactly remember the details but it was a mess.

AFAIK the remake is his attempt to make right what he did wrong, given it's been years between the original and the remake. He's had time to grow in-between despite people holding his (obviously out of date) opinions over his head.

ooooh, cool! I'm glad he grew from that experience... i can see how that led to people hating on his work for stuff that doesnt seem to matter all that much. good to know how that all went down!

I agree that the YIIK dev took a complete 180 in terms of growing as a person coming to making YIIK IV. The combat has an actually unique flow this time, and they even managed to make some stupider plot points, like golden alpaca, (slightly) less ridiculous for its position in the story! That being said, there are still some problems with Alex not shutting up and also the entire thing with the lost girl is insanely confusing and a lot of the plot does feel pretty darn ridiculous still.

I have never played Y11k But I do have a minor grudge because I know that its pronounced Y.2.K but I still pronounce it as yik in my head every time.

I'm pretty sure EVERYONE pronounces it Yeek. Frankly, I find it as an accidental stroke of genius, since if it was called just Y2K, there is NO way the game would've gotten the notoriety it has. Yiik is such a weird name that it almost draws you in to what the hell it even is.

Plus, its really easy to search it without getting stuff from the real Y2K scare mixed in, which I always find annoying when game names are generic enough to cause that.
