Hello!

I have a webring for Rayman, and for a while it was just pure HTML and members had to edit theit code whenever a new member joined

This proved to be overwhelming, so ive deciced to switch to Oninon ring.

Problem is that my widget wont show up when i tested it. did i do something wrong?

Also could someone guide me though editing the widget? Im not sure how it works...

I'm glad to see you got the widget working.

Onionring is the most popular way of creating a webring, the files it gives you look complicated but they're really not. All they do is add the widget you made to the member's page and style it. You can edit all of the files. What I would do is save the original files and the last working ones - just in case!

onionring-variables.js - contains the list of sites in the ring, the ring name and ID, and whether you want to produce a list of the member sites on your site (var useIndex =) which can be true or false, and whether you want to have a random site link (var useRandom =) which can be true or false.

onionring-widget.js - This gets the list of sites in the ring, removes the current site and creates the previous and next links and, if you have set them to true in variables.js, also creates the links for your members page and the random site link.

The last bit in the file creates a table on the member site page that contains the webring widget. This is what you can edit to change the order of the links and so on.

onionring.css - This is what styles the links. If you know a little CSS you can add your own and change widget.js to use them.

onionring-index.js - This file is for you to use if you want to add a list of sites to one of your pages. All it does is get the list of sites and produces an unordered list (<ul>) of the sites on your page. If you like you can style the list by changing the <ul> in this file to <ul class='xxx'> or <ul id='xxx'> and adding CSS to your page to style it.

JavaScript and CSS like HTML has syntax rules to using them. You can edit the files however you like, but it can be easy to mess them up which is why I suggested keeping the copies of the working files.

Everyone in the ring uses the files you gave them which are hosted on your site. You might want to warn your sites you are editing the files before you do anything drastic to them.

I think I see what your problem is. In your onionring-widget.js file, you have this line of code:
Code
var tag = document.getElementById(RaymanID);

The ID in parenthesis should be ringID, so that onionring-widget.js can pull the information for the widget's ID from onionring-variables.js.

I'll link my own onionring-widget.js file for comparison, though I will say that while OnionRing worked fine for me at first, it ended up developing issues and I had to move everything over to webri.ng anyways.
