DISCMASTER is a search engine for vintage data hosted on archive.org.

i heard about it through the discmaster jam on itch.io, where all the participants made games from assets they found in the archives. it inspired me to make my first 3D world, because it's so much easier when all the assets are already made! very fun, and i highly recommend playing around with existing models as a way to get started in 3D.

one of the hosts of the jam made an official video tutorial for finding 3D assets on discmaster. i haven't watched it because i don't like video tutorials, but maybe you do and will find it helpful! here's an example search for some mushrooms.

if you find any cool models, share them here!

here are some of my favorites so far:

if you use these models in a game or world, share those too!

:wizard: you can also use discmaster to search for vintage 2D textures like the ones shared in melon's topic on Collecting 90s Texture CD Links !

I saw your entry for the jam, and it was so cool! I haven't had the chance to run it completely yet, but I thought it was a really cool idea!

I joined as well, and had a ton of fun using the Discmaster archive to find assets, so much that I ended up starting a second project that also uses Discmaster assets. Alas, the game idea behind it needs reworking, so I'm not anywhere near to publishing it yet, but I'll return to it in the future and see if I can make it more cohesive.

Either way, I definitely recommend anyone looking for assets in general (there are a ton of great sound files there as well), not just the 3D ones, check it out. There's really so much there that you could spend hours looking through it all!
