The oldest website on Neocities!

Recently i asked myself: What was the oldest site on neocities.. or the oldest one that hasnt been updated. So i went on a search, and found it!

This website was last updated 9 years ago and seems to be a website for 2 sisters and their lobe for "vintage and foraging for treasures" (their own words).

I wanted to share it here since i think you will all enjoy this page!

didn't knew neocities existed for that long
for me it just shows that some things never change
I remember finding a channel which archives old Roblox videos
and one of the videos was from 2008 about
a Roblox game which mimics Roblox in 2006
it just goes to show no matter how far you go back
you will still find people longing to the times before

A lot of people don't realize the history of Neocities.

You can trace it back to this ycombinator post where the creator introduces it to the community (2013). You'll notice from the posts it's initially received quite badly, but the creator improves upon it based on their input.

You can actually follow his posts over the years to see the community eventually embraces it because he is taking their criticism well and improving issues.

Part of the reason I ultimately left neocities is the realization occured to me that it was no longer the Hacker News project it used to be, but a literal playground for young people.

I've talked about this before but I don't think that's a bad thing. This was the goal all along, to bring back a web host that filled the role of geocities: that is, predominantly targeting kids and amateurs.

But many of the oldest sites were created by people from HN.
