Hellllooo melonland! I love MMORPGs, so I thought it'd be fun to have a thread to chat about just that! They're a genre of games I've spent lots of time playing and have had tons of fun with.

My most played (and by FAR my favorite) mmorpg is final fantasy xiv!!!! I love it so much. The game and story is very dear to me. I play it off and on, playing for long streaks when the story really catches me and then just sort of going bit by bit when it's less cool. Currently i'm in the endwalker patch quests.

Another mmorpg I used to spend a lot of time on was Star Wars: The Old Republic. The game is still very special to me, but I don't play it a ton anymore... It's not the best lol. Such a moneygrabber...

I've tried out final fantasy 11 but it didn't grab me too much. Can't really say why, maybe it's because of how archaic it is... i dunno. Just didn't wow me as much as XIV.

I've also wanted to give Star Wars Galaxies a shot... It seems really unique, I've been looking at a fanserver for a little!! SWG Legends in particular

Ooh, fantastic thread idea! :seal:

I won't bury the lede: World of Warcraft is far and away my most-played MMO, specifically WoW Classic. I've undoubtedly played hundreds of hours; it stands a good chance of being in my top three most-played games of all time! That said, I've not played as much of it this year as I should have liked. I switched to Turtle WoW (a private server) at the start of the year, but after my recent switch to Linux, it unfortunately seems to have become one of the very few games I haven't been able to get working yet

My most played (and by FAR my favorite) mmorpg is final fantasy xiv!!!!
On the subject of games that no longer work for me... yup, FFXIV is unfortunately one that broke for me even when I was still on Windows! Mind you, chances are it'll start working again now I'm on Linux, because that's the kind of topsy-turvy world we live in  I didn't get far at all with FFXIV (only to level 10 or something like that), but I really enjoyed what little of it I played.

I played a bunch of MMOs (not MMORPGs, but I hope it's not too off-topic) during my childhood, too: Club Penguin, Toontown Online (and latterly Toontown Rewritten), and all of those classics.

Demiurge, do you have any specific playstyles you enjoy most in MMORPGs? For example, my favourite character in WoW was an Affliction warlock, so I used to let my minion swoop in and tank all the hits for me while I cast loads of damage-over-time spells on my enemies. It was very fun and surprisingly easy compared to a lot of other builds!

Oooh!! Well for one, I hope you get to play more ffxiv, it's a wonderful game.

In FFXIV, I did most of the story as a Dark Knight, which is a tank job. It was super fun! I really liked being able to soak up the damage and all that...and dark knight itself is SOOO COOL!!! I like big swords lol.

In post-endwalker, I swapped over to Viper, which is a speedy little melee job that uses dual-wielded blades, it's pretty cool. I love the attack animations and stuff.

In SWTOR My most played character was a sith assassin. I mostly played that because 1. I think sith are cool. and 2. I like double bladed lightsabers lol. The class itself was super cool! Had cool stealth cloaking mechanics, and a small handful of force lightning spells as well....

While I wouldn't call myself the biggest MMORPG nerd I did play a fair bit of the more child friendly ones way back when I was little.

One game I played a lot was club penguin when I was 6-7 I didn't have membership, but I did enjoy my time there :cheesy: . Even though it shut down a long time ago there is still some fan made renditions up, and running. Mostly rewritten, and online (If I remember correctly)

Another game I would of played was wizard 101 :wizard: . Yes I'm a knight, but I do find wizard cool time to time. At least I would've if wizard 101 didn't price gate you before you reach the first boss, and as at the time a child with no money I couldn't experience it  . who knows maybe I would be a big fan of wizards if I actually played it.

This last one is a bit more recent, but I still feel the need to mention it. Toontown corporate clash. I haven't played it in a while, and I'm not sure why I haven't. But during my time playing the game I did find it pretty fun. It was nice, and pretty fun. If anybody saw a raccoon named Harry Flipperwicket that was me  :ozwomp:

One more game I will mention is runescape. Runescape always interested me, but I just never really felt the need to play it to be honest. There might be a chance one day where I will get the drive to play it, but right now it's not there.

For what it's worth, the one I found last week is called Club Penguin Legacy! I've not been on it too much, but it certainly seems alright so far.

I'm glad you mentioned RuneScape. Are you talking about Old School RuneScape or the newer version? I've only played the former, and again, not an awful lot. I think I managed to get my Mining or Smithing up to about 30 or 40 last time I played, but that's the furthest I've got. I can see the attraction, don't get me wrong—I love levelling my professions in WoW—but RuneScape has never quite captured me in the same way. I do love the aesthetic, though, and I listen to the soundtrack by itself sometimes (especially when I'm playing MUDs like GenesisRuneScape feels a lot like a halfway-house between MUDs and more modern MMOs, come to think of it!)

I haven't played a ton of old school runescape myself either. Also, I had no idea MUDs still existed!!! I'm TOTALLY gonna check out genesis. I've always wanted to try a MUD!

I really do wish I enjoyed MMORPGs more, but I just got some really weird personal issues with them. Like if I fall behind my friends or am not available at all times that Im better off not playing and dragging em down.

Like I was playing FF14 a little, some friends wanted to help me grind through the base game content we got to Ifrit (I think, one of the great beasts or w/e, the one after the birdlady) I died on the first attack pattern, got embarrassed and ran lol. I did have a pretty good time with Guild Wars 2 and PSO2 (and 1 on the gamecube local co-op)
