I think you are gonna get a few people who take this thread far too seriously and go on big rants about how you don't want computer viruses (hello reader; if you're one of those people stop now  )

It might be a good idea to describe what your favourite virus is so people have an idea of the kind of viruses you're talking about! I've never personally seen a computer with a virus on it, so they are kinda like mythological fables to me (here there be viruses  :omg: )

LOLOL TRUE, ILL DO THAT NOW!!

EDIT:
My personal favorite virus is kakworm (obviously LOL), its a very goofy virus but it intrigues me!

It has french origins, and the most popular variant is the "Kagou-Anti-Kro$oft says not today!" variant

but it has others such as "days it was a days to be a days!" (known as the days variant) and the original french variants (which if i remember my friends translation correctly it says something along the lines of "WHAT?? youre not interested?? youre not worthy of the computer world then, BYE-BYE!")

theres the last variant which i believe to be by the original virus author that tells you how to remove the virus since they did not intend it to spread.

I firmly believe kak variants c to d are the original ones, and the days variant is its first american variant (which was also the first widespread one) and the kagou-anti-krosoft variant BEING THE MOST WIDESPREAD.

kak actually had more calls to antivirus companies then the iloveyou/loveletter worm at one point too!! sucks kak doesnt get alot of love though...

Are only viruses asked for, or goes any kind of malware?
I'm a big fan of these classic RATs, and especially of Optix Pro. It was such an elegant and well written piece of work - with a small, easily to stealth executeable - your payload went onto that target like butter, and than gave basically full control over the system. They don't make them like this anymore. Unfortunately, with the rise of routers, it was much more difficult to use - as it hadn't an option for reverse connection - and those that had, like SubSeven, weren't nearly as comfortable.
RATs turned much more boring with the rise of botnets, and today's script kiddies try mainly to dish out crypto-blackmailers, if I'm not mistaken. I can fully see that earning money is nice, but spreading out infected binaries by the thousand without even trying to check what is on the target system seems cold and impersonal to me.

If only real viruses count: What was the name of the one who showed a countdown and did a shutdown at 0? Iirc, the countdown also got shorter from time to time. It was a rather popular one.

Oh this is a fun one, there are a lot of cool ones out there. I think in terms of notoriety I think iloveyou is really iconic, and I guess if spyware hidden in a regular software counts I like bonzi buddy a lot, but I haven't really given this much thought... There is a whole world of really interesting viruses and malware.

This is embarrassing to admit, but I was also a child at the time so I guess not really, but I remember installing some spyware disguised as a virtual pet raising game on the family computer and really liked it  :drat:. I was really in for a shock when my grandparents removed it and gave me a lecture about installing software on the computer! Afterwards I had my permissions to install anything revoked for several years, until I was in my teens and much more knowledgable about computers  I don't remember what the game was anymore but I'm sure someone here is familiar with it also haha.

OMG LACON!!!!!!! i love how silly that one is!! its a simple, nice and silly worm, its error message is very reminiscent of kaks error message to me too xD and i love viruses that replace website pages... im surprised with homestar runners popularity there isnt more viruses like lacon out there.. ive seen SO many pop culture inspired viruses out there (like skynet, and memez/vinememz and rensomware if youre wanna include more modern ones!!)
