Not sure if this is the right board to ask this, I apologize if not!
I've been wanting to customize my computer for awhile. I'm on Windows 11 (Ik it's not great I just really don't have the mental energy to deal with it atm) and was wondering what applications there are that allow you to customize the visuals/ui or add fun things to your desktop? Especially looking for free apps. So far I've found Retrobar and I'm currently using it and love it! :4u:

The closest thing I can think of is winamp (legacy player), it's a media player! I like to use it a lot, it looks nice and I like the little buttons. It has an equalizer, default skins, a visualizer (it's like some trippy video that plays along with the music you are listening to) and lets you make playlists and use custom skins:cheerR:

I'm a big fan of shimejis, I love having a little guy run around my screen and just multiply from time to time. The art is always so cute. I usually run fandom-related ones but you could still find something more general if you look for it.

When I was on Windows 10 still, I used Open Shell for the start menu, and much like you, Retrobar for the taskbar. But I hear on Windows 11, it comes into conflict with Retrobar. I also used AIMP as an audio player. I went back to it after the dev said he was beta testing better compatibility with Linux. There's a bunch of themes for it in different styles. This includes themes that look like older versions of Windows Media Player, but also various other things like ones themed after real life devices. I also tried Wacup for a bit which is an up to date version of Winamp.
You can also use client mods for certain programs like Vencord (Discord), Aerochat (Discord) or Spicetify (Spotify) to apply themes to them. If you use Spicetify, I recommend the WMPotify theme since it's the only skeuomorphic theme.
I've also seen some people use Escargot as a way of using Windows Live Messenger with their outlook account.
