 :dog: Hello guys :D
What place do you love hosting your images? I'm not fancy and can't host anything locally from my pc so I upload to imgr mostly to host images for forums, and sometimes my website, but neocities is good about hosting them on there.
What do you guys like using?  :wizard:

PixVid, ImgBB and Imgur (just because I used it a lot in the past). Except Imgur, they have a decent file limit per upload and they should be kept indefinitely. I think Imgur is no longer available in UK and maybe other countries, the images can't be seen by them.

I haven't uploaded stuff to a place besides my site in a long time now. I think I used to use tinypic, but I don't think that exists anymore. I got increasingly frustrated with the amount of those image hosting sites that would just... stop hosting images I had uploaded after a few years. So I figured if I wanted to really share something long term, I'd use my own host for it, or occasionally I had used Twitter or something more semi-permanent. I allow my users on my site to upload their own photos to my server for the same reason. It's less hassle for everyone, at the cost of me hosting a handful of files here and there.

I used imgBB in the past for image hosting, but nowadays I tend to prefer using catbox for all my files. It doesn't have any file management features, all you do is upload your • . ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁~whatever~ ݁ . ⊹ ₊ ݁. • and it spits out a link. Super intuitive if you ask me! It's very privacy friendly too if that's a concern for you. There's also its sister service litterbox if you want temporary file storage. Both services accept just about any file type, so if you have a 20mb video you want to send to your discord friends or an mp3 you want to put on your neocities it's great for that too!

Just be aware that Imgur is blocked in the UK because they (not unreasonably) don't want to play ball with our (new, chilling) online safety regulations. I see a lot of independent static websites where none of the images load, nowadays, because the owner decided to host all their images on Imgur!

So yeah: any of the suggestions given are good, but if you use Imgur then I won't see it (unless I bother to fire up a VPN).

Me: I just drag images either to my NAS (static IP on fibre to my house, have a folder that "just works" over HTTPS) or onto my website (similar deal). Space and bandwidth are cheap so long as you're not serving multi-hundred-megabyte videos or similar!

Like the others, I just host things on my website itself. However, here are some image hosting websites that I've seen before:

  • File Garden - my personal favourite of the bunch; this one seems common around the indie web
  • cubeupload - clean layout; account required
  • Squidge - be warned it's for fandom use only so you can't use it to upload things like random photos or personal images
  • ImgBB and PixVid - like Squidge, these all use the Chevereto software so they all have the same layout, which I personally find intuitive to use
  • imgpx - very fuss-free, but recently they made it so if you don't have an account images are auto-converted to webp
  • Fileditch based on Pomf like Catbox, so if you've seen Catbox it works the same way

Also, people have brought up that Imgur is banned in the UK and I also want to add the Catbox seems to be banned in the Philippines, and I recall the website saying it's also blocked by a bunch of other places/ISP's (I can't look at the website because it's blocked here so I can't even say what it says exactly anymore lol)

I personally use Dropbox, as I have been using it since forever. There isn't much issues aside from it breaks very occasionally (it broke twice in my two years of webmastering), but the fix is to just change the www part in the embed link to dl, or vice versa.

I've seen people use Catbox, but it doesn't have a good impression for me since I've seen it crash many times. I've used Imgur a long time ago, but now it loads very slowly for me for some reason.

(A hint in case anyone here didn't know: Don't use Discord for permanent image hosting, the embed does not last forever)
