wasn't entirely sure if this belongs in this board "post your news & events or the irl board so apologies to the mods if i took the wrong guess!

i'm going to be hosting an indie web meetup alongside loaf, creator of kero.gay at anthro new england next week! there's quite a bit of overlap between furry and indie web themes, and i'm looking forward to see what everyone has to share. the panel format will be a brief presentation and then plenty of time to talk and share projects.

i'm not entirely sure if anyone here will be going but if you (or someone you know) are a furry heading to boston in the next week feel free to pop in!
i'll also be doing a write-up on the experience on my blog (if you're unable to make it or just curious) in the weeks after.

Oh no I'm a bit too far from Boston, like, there's a whole ocean in between ;w; but I would love to know how this goes! I wish you good luck on the meetup and reccomend you to take pics/document the event on your blogs!
I indeed think furdom and early internet go hand in hand and I know a lot of us actually have web designing as a hobby. If this goes well I wouldn't mind seeing similar panels in european cons/meetups!

Ohhh that's so cool! I think it's a fun idea to have meetups and stuff like that at furry and uhh for lack of a better term "pop culture" cons [typically ones that don't have a strict theme that usually have a lot of anime, video game, tabletop, and furry stuff all together. Most of them I see get called animecons still though] I really wanna start going to conventions again and start cosplaying again once I can afford so I keep being nosy about any and all convention and cosplay related posts I see 👀

Anyway, I'm not a big furry[barely even have a fursona lol] and def too far [and would be too expensive for me anyway] for me and probably too short notice for my friend out that way as well, but I'll still send them a message to see if they're close enough or would be interested for something like that.

Good luck on the meetup! and hope you have a lot of fun.

@ValyceNegative
thank you!
i'm hoping that if this goes well more people will feel inspired to hold similar meetups.

i was inspired by a lot of archival based panels (old zines or otherwise focus on early fandom culture) and while i'm too young to have experienced that era of furry i feel there is a great overlap of ideas. preservation and archival tends to go hand in hand with indie web culture. other furry-designed websites were a big inspiration in creating my own site so i'm particularly excited to see what people might have to share. i'll post on this thread once i've put my blog post talking about it up as well.

@CosmicRot
thank you!

the lack of panels of this sort at more general pop culture cons (anime/comic) is sort of what got me to submit the panel to a furry con in the first place. furry cons tend to embrace programming that may not be greenlit as easily at bigger/more corporate conventions, although i will admit programming seems to have been much more diversified in recent years, so i figured this would be the best fit within my means.

also on a side note, i've been wanting to work on cosplays lately too! i've been working on fursuits lately and it's taught me a whole lot about sewing. there's something immensely satisfying about putting something together for months and then finally getting to show it off at a big event.

Oh, that's such a nice idea! I don't live in the US, but maybe we could do a similar meeting in Europe??  :eyes:
