My eyes are terrible! I've worn glasses for as long as I can remember, and contacts off and on (currently "on"). I don't know my prescription but it's really bad, like I can't read the big "E" on the chart, I have astigmatism in both eyes, and because of a birth defect that affected half my face I am very left-eye dominant.
When I wore glasses I had the most expensive options available, and insurance covered almost all of those options. Like, aspheric lenses, ant-glare, special thin material, etc. Still they were so thick I could only wear certain frames due to distortion and lens thickness. Even when I did have a good pair, the distortion was so bad I felt like my vision was still not truly "corrected" with glasses. Which is a shame because I actually like how I look in glasses
Soft contact lenses cannot go up to my prescription, and my vision is so bad I have had two different optometrists tell me laser is not an option, because the risks are not worth the benefit, which wouldn't even be 20/20 vision. And normal gas-permeable hard contact lenses are super uncomfortable to me.
Sooo currently I'm rocking a pair of scleral hard contact lenses that my optometrist and I worked on for three months to fit correctly

They sit on the white part of your eye and sort of vault over your cornea. You fill the lenses with sterile saline like a cup when putting them on, so its just filled with saline between the cornea and the contact lens, which is way more comfortable than it sounds. It's the best vision I've ever had! Super annoying to fit (we were making adjustments of like tens of microns and it takes a week or two to get a new pair to test out each time) but it's the best I can ever realistically hope for in terms of vision quality.
