I've come down with a rotten cold and after pushing myself far too much while playing a show with band last night I have found myself taking resting very seriously today! It got me thinking, maybe someone that I've never met before might have a tip or few on what they do when they need to take a really good rest day, so, share with me your ideas and experiences, stuff like that :)

I am mainly making this as a search for ways that we can be kinder to ourselves when we're feeling more fragile, so it'd be nice if we can keep a focus on care, love and fun <3

I'll start. I love an orange. there's something so soothing about orange juice and maybe it's placebo but knowing I'm getting some sort of good vitamin feels nice. I usually cut slices and then just chew on em. As a bonus it gives me something to do that's not just sniffling and sneezing!

Also, today I have been listening to The Wizard, The Witch and The Wild One by Worlds Beyond Number. It's a wonderful dnd podcast with such rich story telling! It helps to get lost in another world when I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself in my own.

Anyways! I look forward to hearing from anyone!

Nothing special, i just drink lots of green tea with honey, and each chicken soup and spicy things. Jalapeños, rice cooked with hot sauce, tea with black pepper and cayenne, whatever with garlic.

I'm remembering as i write this that i don't get sick very often so i don't have many solutions.

When I'm sick I take those vitamin C tablets that you dissolve in water. I'll also sometimes have some frozen blueberries as a snack since those are also good for your immune system. Other than that I normally rest as much as I can

Some things I do when I'm sick:
  • Tea with honey and lemon (I already do this but it helps with my throat)
  • Heat up a bowl of soup
  • Gargle with mouthwash
  • Take this citrus flavored zinc vitamin meant as a cold remedy
  • Take NyQuill if I need it

i don't get sick often, but when i do i stay in bed all day and sleep it off. when my fiance is sick (they're just now recovering from a cold) they drink lots of tea and watch the spongebob movie. every time. i can quote most of this movie by memory just from the sheer amount of times i've seen it this past year LOL

Hello GlumPups~!

I was just sick this past weekend.  I had a nasty head cold that lasted about two days and now that everything is draining, I've lost my voice and have a sore cough.  It sounds like we may have/had a similar bug or symptoms!

I had this forum bookmarked for a few months and forgot how I came across it, but during my sick days, I finally made the account.  All this to say, I have gotten a lot of comfort from nostalgic hobbies.  I've visited a lot of old websites, chatrooms, and games, clicked through lots of posts and rabbit holes and wikipedia articles etc.  I came up with things to doodle, and bought a new DnD themed coloring book and the cheapest sketchbook I could get.  I'm currently devising a new OC/Fursona.  These things have all made recovering a bit more tolerable!

On the symptoms side, Theraflu tea is what I absolutely swear by! I use both the daytime and nighttime varieties, during their appropriate time frames of course. Also, extra strength Tylenol.

I also let all the dreadful housework and obligations pile up and coddled myself, ordering a sub sandwich one night, and spicy Indian food the next night.

I sincerely hope you feel better!

I didnt read the original thread starting post but i'm leaving my sworn-by ritual here:

-emergen c with turmeric and ginger
-piping hot bowl of pho
-vaporub
-fuckton of sugarfree gingerale
-TERRIBLE horror movie. like campy horror b movie. or something like Reefer Madness.
-Alternatively, "trashy" reality tv like divorce court or judge judy or something.

this has never not worked for me
(of course also medicate as needed)

Get well soon, Glumpups. I was sick recently too, and I'm starting to come down with something else now.

The main thing I eat when I'm sick is watermelon. It's really refreshing and something I can eat even when I lose my appetite. When I'm very sick and watermelonless, I stick to plain rice.

For fun: I write shameless drabbles, and watch random movies I find off Peertube. Watching a movie you've never heard about late at night, when you're sick hits different. Especially if it's an arthouse or horror movie.

when I'm home-bound by sickness, I always wind up buying a new videogame that clicks with whatever brain state the sickness has me in.  last time I was sick it was Megabonk.  I needed something mindless that kept me busy while I listened to podcasts.

I think it's maybe not the best remedy, but it keeps me from dwelling on being sick and leads to me playing some games I might not play otherwise.

when my fiance is sick they drink lots of tea and watch the spongebob movie. every time.
this is also a good way to do it.  I LOVE the spongebob movie.  putting that on or another of my childhood favorites is a good option for when I don't wanna be at my desk.
