I love the Meat Puppets, and seeing what you enjoy, it might be worth a listen.

Other than that, I love Kay Gardner (American esoteric women music composer), Pearls before Swine/Tom Rapp (LSD-heavy acid Folk), the Incredible String Band, English Folk Music in general (Shirley Collins, The Watersons, currently listeing to "The Derby Ram" sung by Loyd). I love good acoustic guitar players. Jazz. Current 93. And Dungeon Synth :).

I highly, highly recommend everyone try Pinback!! You will enjoy them if you enjoy prog rock, indie rock, alt rock, whatever. Poetic lyrics and amazing instrumentals packed with great segments of guitar, drums, bass, keyboards. They are criminally under-popular.

Otherwise, some of my favorite artists are The Cranberries, bôa, Cocteau Twins, Tori Amos, Kristin Hersh, PJ Harvey, Imogen Heap, the band Death, Ozric Tentacles, and some rappers from various countries because I love the sound of various languages!

I love stuff in nearly every genre out there, and I collect lots of music physically and digitally, so feel free to send some niche music my way! I like folk from everywhere, electronic music in various styles from ambient to noisy and chaotic, rap, metal and adjacent genres, songwriter, indie pop, rock, spoken word, vaporwave.. You name it!

My favorite band of all time is Pink Floyd (has been since I was 13 and idk if that'll ever change), but these days I mainly listen to gothic rock/dark wave above all else. My favorites are Depeche Mode, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cocteau Twins, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen, London After Midnight, Sisters of Mercy, Sitchblade Symphony, and Starberry Switchblade. I'd also describe my taste as general 60's/70's stuff (David Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, Velvet Underground), a bit of folk/folk punk (Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Simon and Garfunkle, AJJ, Mountain Goats), some "weirdcore" stuff (Will Wood, Jack Stauber, Soddikken), and a bit of experimental/industrial rock (Nine Inch Nails, Swans, The Legendary Pink Dots).

You don't have to tell me what a mess my taste is. I'm already well-aware

lemme tell you about how much I LOVE MACHINE GIRL they're a two person band specializing in hardcore electronic music, you might of heard their wlfgrl album has been trending recently and this song that's blew up a couple years ago, a lot of people love this one every time I mention them !! it's one of their calmer songs

personally I'm a huge fan of their MG Ultra album that was dropped last year

unfortunately a lot of their music isn't even archived on their profiles so you have to go DIGGING for their old stuff but golly there's a HUGE gold mine. I love their new stuff and I'm so ready for new releases, hell, even the music videos are awesome af they give me old anime vibes

but also the community is so nice, not to sound like an advertisement or anything I just genuinely love them so much that I need to actually make a shrine for them LOL

I'm a huge fan of "Ado". She's a japanese musician with incredible singing skills. For a while, my favorite hobby was looking at reactions of people watching her "unravel" live cover. It's fun to see people in their 40s, with no connection to the japanese/anime scene at all, falling in love with her music.

my all-time favourite band is talking heads. they disbanded a decade before i was born, but i got to see david byrne live last year and it was genuinely transcendant. there are lots of reasons i love talking heads, chief among them being the innovative mixing of influences and the unabashed autism of byrne's artistry. this must be the place (naive melody) is my favourite song of all time, and i want it to play when i walk down the aisle and when i'm put in the ground.


some other treasures for you all:

* anamanaguchi, the scary jokes, in love with a ghost, and kero kero bonito were the weird texturey pop-esque faves i had on repeat throughout my teens, and i maintain a deep fondness for them. also ok go and passion pit! though the former's most experimental in terms of their music videos. also owl city and aivi and surasshu!

* occasionally i dabble in folky stuff; my favourites there are the crane wives, connie converse, fleet foxes, and vashti bunyan. also lael neale if she counts!

* lots of artists i adore died before i was born. some are gay icons like jobriath and klaus nomi. i am still sad about karen carpenter's passing and her voice is in a league of its own to this day.

* i swear i'm not ALL pretentious though. i have deep love for hozier, carly rae jepsen, chappell roan, fleetwood mac, kate bush, queen, prince... also janelle monae, if she counts as more mainstream than not? she does to me. i'm still mad she got snubbed on a grammy, like, eight years ago lol.

* some of my music taste is very... ah... online. vylet pony and lemon demon and ethel cain come to mind. love 'em! also LOTS of vocaloid. wowaka and nayutalien come to mind as producers i'm drawn to, as well as flavor foley.

* is hyperpop also still considered online? i love hyperpop and the resulting diaspora of all the crazy experimental stuff going on. underscores is everything. i still remember exactly where i was when sophie died. ninajirachi's music makes me feel extremely seen, and her recent collabs with porter robinson have been incredibly delightful.

* new wave and synthpop are often what i consider my favourite genres. older stuff like strawberry switchblade and lene lovich, yknow, devo and b-52's and blondie and sparks and the the and xtc and jun togawa so on, and also newer stuff like hemlocke springs and tikkle me and tommy february6 and magdalena bay! and i do think that geordie greep's stuff belongs here too.

* and of course on occasion i'll dip out of all these niches. i quite enjoy tyler the creator, paul williams, stevie wonder, the beach boys, k.d. lang, kendrick lamar, and other total curveballs. i also listen to like, mood music and oldies when i'm doing house errands. makes me feel pleasantly grandmotheresque. also had a sweet trip era for a bit.

* as a bonus: i ddon't listen to my own music very often, save for my stuff with my band webpage 505. which is mostly produced by my bandmates so i don't feel too weird recommending it haha!
