Based on that song you shared, I think you’ll really dig the album
Metal Machine Music by Lou Reed.
I’m a huge Beatles fan, since you mention them, and I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but I think Abbey Road is their best album (I really love the medley on the B-side of the record). That said, if you’re looking for unusual or experimental Beatles songs, I can personally recommend the following just to give you a smattering of Beatles flavour! And remember: nothing like this had
ever been done before. The reason some of it doesn’t seem particularly out of the ordinary to us is because the Beatles laid the groundwork for the next 60 years and counting of popular music!
In chronological order:
- Tomorrow Never Knows
- Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite!
- Blue Jay Way
- I Am The Walrus
- Strawberry Fields Forever
- Revolution 9 (this is the only Beatles song I actively dislike, but you might get on better with it)
- I Want You (She’s So Heavy)
I kept the list fairly short, but I’m happy to give you more Beatles recommendations if you’re interested.
May I also recommend Pink Floyd? You may have already heard
Dark Side of the Moon, a masterpiece of an album, as well as the other brilliant albums that follow it—in particular
Wish You Were Here, but the albums before they got famous are really underrated: particularly
Piper at the Gates of Dawn,
Atom Heart Mother, and
Meddle.
I realise that this is pretty Beatles-heavy considering you’ve already said you don’t like the Beatles, but you do seem interested in exploring their work further—and I’m always keen to show people that they’re not just the band that did Can’t Buy Me Love and other more traditional hits. Have fun listening, and good luck with your music journey wherever it takes you!
