how does one become more active on forums

to be honest? i keep a little bookmark to melonland here on my bookmark toolbar. it helps keep it in my sight, so i dont accidentally forget (for long, at least...)

I do the same thing! Whenever I open a new tab I have several quicklinks to sites, and adding forums to there helps me remember to check on them every now and then.

Also like others said, RSS feeds for forums is excellent. I don't sub to all the feeds for the forums I'm on, because that would be too overwhelming, but with MelonLand it's really nice to get my list of threads and posts everyday
