hey everyone!

i recently got into RPG Maker again (mostly thanks to the existence of the guild on here!  ) and figured it'd be fun to organize a Melonland RPG jam. However, you're able to use ANY engine as long as it's a RPG GAME!!! You can use Godot, Unity, Game Maker, whatever you'd like... and of course... RPG Maker. :]

Rules are simple; you'll have two months to make a game! (Or one? Or three? what do the rest of you think?) on a theme! I've suggested some names for this one, but for the next jam (I'd like to host another one after this!) i think it'd be best for everyone to suggest themes! :]

anyway, please share this jam? :]

p.s. you have 3 votes, so just vote on the themes you'd like! the poll will run for 15 days!

Maybe it would be an option to open up your jam to other engines and make it a general CRPG/JRPG-Jam? This might increase the amount of people whom might participate, as not everybody owns or uses a version of the RPG-Maker.

Oh, maybe! Would definitely open up the interest. I'll clarify! So people using Godot and other engines can participate too. :]

Though, for anyone who seeks it, RPG Maker is available.....  :skull:

currently thinking on when to host it!

Perhaps 'autumn RPG jam' would be a good idea? 23rd September - 24rd December? That's 3 months which I believe is enough for a game! :]

Or if anyone's feeling particularly rushy about it, we could make it last through August?  :eyes:

My personal feeling about this: Give it time. Creating games that are a bit more refined (and 2-3 months aren't much time, especially for those who have obligations in addition to their hobbies) is much more fun for devs and potential players alike :).

yeah, i tend to agree with you! Im personally a fan of short punchy jams, but i think giving it time would work out better! :]

Current idea is to make it a seasonal rpg jam! So autumn one (sept 23-dec 23!) then winter one etc. :] three months is plenty of time for a game!

I think doing the jam seasonally would be nice! It would also allow for people to know roughly when the next one should be so if they can't do an autumn one they will know that if they want to commit to the winter one they can make time for it in January (or however the actual schedule works out). Seasonally would also mean roughly a maximum of 3 months per jam, and 4 jams per year. It would be nice to have so many opportunities. Though it might be nice to have an off-season too, so nobody wears themself out. Generally, I think a lot of the people interested will just be happy to have someone hosting an event! :4u:

really glad to see people checking out the thread and voting! :] i plan go publish the jam on itchio during this week and invite people to vote kn this thread.

I want to ask yalls opinion though: with my other jams, experience has been that people generally want to have a discord server to participate in too. I personally dislike them but also, they can be useful for game jams (so people can find a team etc). I think itd be more fun if things went through the forum, since yk, the idea did originate on here. what does everyone think?

and another question: should the jam be ranked or non-ranked? I have zero interest or time to be a judge myself, so obv, it can be community rankedy or if a committee wants to form on here, thats obv all also fine. I see it less as my jam and more akin to the RPG Maker Guild on here or melonland jam.

Since this is a jam "born on Melonland" (as you said on the jam page), it feels against the slow and deliberate nature of this forum to have a Discord server for the jam. There is also the "Community" tab on the jam itself so there is already a built in way to communicate to others for anyone who is not yet interesting in joining the forum.

and another question: should the jam be ranked or non-ranked? I have zero interest or time to be a judge myself, so obv, it can be community rankedy or if a committee wants to form on here, thats obv all also fine. I see it less as my jam and more akin to the RPG Maker Guild on here or melonland jam.

I prefer a non-ranked jam; it is hard to judge effort on any artistic project, and judging based on technical skills could deter people new to the craft.

yeah, exactly what i think... the jam should stay in this thread/guild/itch community page, not spread out to discord serves that im vehemently against.  :ok:

i did currently put the jam to be based on votes of other users as opposed to some council/judge panel, just to encourage other people to play other games, though i'm still not sure of that decision.  :eyes:
