Definition game - what is a carrot?

This is a forum definition game, the rules are simple, I will ask a base question and attempt to answer it. Every reply after that should assume that every reply to the question that came before is incorrect and you should instead try to provide a new correct answer.

Example: Base question, what is cheese? A1: Its a food. A2: Its food group. A3: Its a word you say before a photo.

So lets get started 

Base question: What is a carrot?

Answer: A carrot is an orange root vegetable that can be eaten raw or cooked!
