Reviewing & rambling about Mountain Engines

I've recently finished my first whole book review for my fansite, 'Mountain Engines: They Call it Dreeym-y-Deighan for a Reason' which I'm quite proud of. I've been wanting to put something together on the Culdee Fell for a while now- despite all the other things I've also got rolling around- and I think I've gotten something pretty solid, if not a bit long, for what little screen-time the audience is given with them.

First up: your site is flipping amazing. I love Wilbert and Christopher Awdry's The Railway Series.

A technical suggestion

If I can just make a quick technical suggestion: you routinely have images like this:

<img src="..." max-width="100%">

But that max-width doesn't do anything because max-width isn't a HTML attribute, it's a CSS property. It belongs in a style="..." attribute (or in your stylesheet)!

Given that you probably never want an image in a post to be wider than the post, I'd add this to your style.css file:

  max-width: 100%;
}

This tidies-up your super-wide images a lot!

(Optionally, you could drop the .post bit and make all images, by default, not be wider than their containers: that'd probably be fine too and indeed is often something I put into my stylesheets as-standard.)

Mountain Engines

Wow. This is a deeper-dive into this part of the series than I've ever seen before. The depth of your comprehension here is mind-boggling. I mean: speaking as somebody who's read all of the original books (multiple times, not least because my I enjoyed them as a kid and then my kids enjoyed them when they were younger, too!)... I started thinking about them in new ways after exploring your site. Amazing stuff.

But fix those over-wide images.

I very much appreciate the suggestion, thank you! This is my very first venture into coding and I had no idea the max-width bit wasn't doing what I thought it was. I've added what you've said just as written, so I hope it's correct now, sitting with the rest of the post information.

I'm framing this compliment on my mental wall, as well. It's always nice to hear from someone else who loves The Railway Series and I'm glad I was able to give you a new perspective. These not-so-little creatures mean a whole lot to me, and I'm cheesed to know I'm onto something, haha!
