My father longed for Windows-Plus themes (especially the jungle one) last weekend. Seaching a bit I did not only find a theme collection on the archive but also Chicago95, a tool that allows you to transform your xfce Desktop to Win95, including support for Plus Themes.

Did install, and it works well. Won't be able to stand it for long, the thing is quite to kitschy for me :D.

Will have to figure out how to uninstall this again.
Have fun!

i love the look of this so much that i'm almost tempted to learn how to install linux OWO

i get why you wouldn't want to use it 100% of the time but man, for me, the nostalgia is tempting :') my first computer ran windows95 — even though it was a good few years after that was relevant lol. my dad hates updating his devices so whatever i inherited was always lovely and "retro."

Installing Linux is easy nowadays (all you need is some empty disk space, and an USB-flashdrive) - if you want I can give you a short tutorial how to get to this UI and install the software you want on the way.

It is very well possible that only my attachment to the xfce-design I use for well over 10 years protects me from falling victim to my soft spot for nostalgia ;).

that's so generous of you to offer! i really would appreciate that, actually, because the winclassic forum is a little technical for me hahaha. i do have confidence in installing a unix-like alone, but software help would be amazing.

mobile fighter g gundam, actually :grin: though you reminding me of yu yu hakusho might mean it's time for a rewatch...

@Cobra! Damn cool :D.
For how long do you use it by now? Any experience how it behaves with xfce-updates?

@honeybread You are welcome. What software do you use under Windows that you want to replace?
Didn't watched Yu-Yu fully till now, but one day I will hunker down and binge it ;D. Ought to check out Gundam as well, looks like my pair of boots!

Been using it for about a year? No issues whatsoever.

This seems like a reasonable thread to bring up one of the dopest things ever, the b00merang project. This group of developers makes GTK themes for linux based on all sorts of other existing operating system, most importantly basically all of the old windows versions. If you use them on cinnamon with cinnIIstarkmenu, you can get a really authentic feeling experience theming your system to look like any windows xp through windows 10. Even longhorn, which is so gorgeous I daily drive it! I sincerely highly recommend you look through them. I genuinely couldn't live digitally without them.
Seriously, get a load of this!

I really love how this looks ;-; I'm using Plasma and have had some fun with the system and login screen themes. I use Reactionary, which is just a retro-y theme thats less "kitschy" lolol

Cool stuff @virtue !

@testtubesterone pretty, but a bit to loaded for my taste - I stay true to Adwaite:
