I just stumbled across this website on Wiby called Computer Stupidies, and is a goldmine of funny (and sad-cringy) stories of people who don't understand technology, but it's also kind of educational, teaching me mistakes I haven't even made, but will now avoid making.

I hope you guys enjoy reading through these as much as I am!

A few gems I found on there 

A guy called in and said, "My computer blew up!" But, really, he had only experienced the 'starfield' screen saver.

I asked him why he thought his hard disk was full. He said, "But can't you see? There's no free space!" And, really, there was no free space -- not a single inch of free space -- on his desktop.
I gave him a higher screen resolution and put a handful of folders on his desktop. I told him I installed some "drawers" so he had more space. Now he's happy.

Excuse me, there is an empty-folder virus on my disk.

Customer: "Am I supposed to hear those people on the IRC?"
I wondered if he was calling because he couldn't hear them, or because he could.

Fact: Boston Computer Museum sells chocolate bars shaped like floppy disks.

Fact: Three year old kids see daddy boot his computer using a floppy to play games.

Fact: Computers are warm inside...even some quite expensive computers.

I don't want to talk about it.

http://www.bash.org was another haunt, but I don’t think it’s aged very well.

Skippy's List is a mirror rather than the original, and isn’t computer related, but good for a chuckle.

Here's one that hasn't aged well.

I went with a friend to help him shop for a computer. Looking through the different varieties, he said, "I don't think I can afford one of these big ones [desktop machines]. I think I'll have to go with one of these little ones [laptops]."

Laptops these days are cheaper than desktops, so it took me a while to realise that wasn't the case back when this was posted.

I am not really up to date on the situation at all, but wasn't a pre-built PC at some point cheaper than building it yourself because of the GPU shortage, because of the incredibly high demand (bitcoin farming) and low supply (chip shortage)? This would then extend to laptops as well, but pleae correct me if I'm wrong

Well no, because the only people who use desktops are power users and gamers. People who just want a simple cheap computer will probably go for a laptop. So I’m assuming prices reflected that. (It’s hard to find information on either, because when you look up cheap computers and laptops, you just get used and refurbished units.)

Whereas back in the day, computers themselves were new technology, let alone ones with built in screens and batteries.

From where I live, it's actually cheaper to buy a desktop than a laptop (accounting for specs). I think I may have confused you regionally. This is because there is a higher demand for laptops and it's also harder to make a laptop from scratch apposed to a desktop.

If this isn't the case then it's likely because I haven't had the need to buy a new computer for a really long time.

Well only counting new units (and not refurbished), the cheapest desktop I’ve seen is $300. Cheapest laptop I could find is $200.

Huh? Did I say something wrong?

If you mean if specs are the same, yeah, desktops would cheaper, but I can’t imagine low end desktops are really that much of a thing nowadays. If someone just wanted a computer with no hassle, they’d just get a laptop, right?

That's probably why I got confused. I am comparing more expensive computers, the laptops are (in most cases) always the pricier option. Never considered the cheaper end.
