movies where nothing happens

Hmmm, I guess the movie "Waiting..." or with the other title "Eat This". It's a movie about a bunch of young adults working in a restaurant and the main guy is wondering if he should quit/do something else, just has like a mini "what is my life" blowout.

I just find this movie so likeable because it really captures the small details of working in a restaurant. And the cast is pretty funny.

this is actually a genre in anime!

i discovered it through violet evergarden. after watching this film (on the false recommendation that it was queer), i complained to some friends about it. i outright said "nothing happens in the entire movie". i had a hard time describing just how much nothing there actually was. i described it as "like all those nothing in-between scenes strung together with the plot cut out".

one of those friends was excited, because this was an emerging genre in anime. it's called healing anime, which they explained as "nothing happens: the genre". there's no conflict, no plot, nothing interesting happens. people watch it when they're overwhelmed. it's deliberately understimulating.
