Yessss! I was surprised honestly that it took this long for NieR to come up, it's usually one of the top games people reference for best OSTs. And I'm with you there!

This thread is awesome, I love video game music so much. I'm glad people are posting more than just one song/game because I would NOT be able to pick one.

NieR Automata
If I'm being honest, I overall like the original NieR soundtrack more, but Automata's has some stand-out tracks that hit really well. This is one of my favorites.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
This is the game I've played most throughout my life, and a massive part of my childhood. I've beaten the game countless times and will likely beat it countless more. And the OST throughout is amazing. It lives up to its name.

I do not think it is remotely possible to pick a single track to represent the entire game (at least not without spoilers). The diversity of music in this game is immense. But it's such a wonderful soundtrack that really brings the game to life. Possibly my new favorite game, and certainly a contender for favorite soundtrack.

Exactly, the HSOL soundtrack is one of the best parts of that game. The sheer VARIETY is insane, and every song is a bop (ok maybe i dont like Tension but besides that)

also little sneak peak thingy but i got to contribute a sfx or two to the sequel :)

Also, the Balatro "soundtrack" is so hypnotic I physically can't forget it if I tried.

A common answer, but probably the Undertale soundtrack. It's the first soundtrack that made me really fall in love with video game soundtracks, and I carried around a copy of it burned onto CDs for ages when I was younger. So many emotions tied to it as well, I still sob at Home and Undertale.

I've listened to a lot of video game music in my day  but my favorite osts as a whole are probably:
Super Mario 3D World (absolutely my favorite of all time)
Minecraft, specifically the old Xbox creative mode themes
Silent Hill 2
It might also be just because i have so many hours but i love the Hi3 soundtrack, especially the pre-battle theme

Persona 5, at the moment. Here are some of my biggest favs :]

"Take Over" (exclusive to P5Royal; ambush theme)

"Awakening" + "Will Power Meld"

"Life Will Change" (the theme that plays when a Palace's Security Level is 100%)

"A Woman" (1st part of Madarame's Palace BGM)

for me it's really heavily split between Touhou and Sonic.

Touhou has The Gensokyo the Gods Loved, Romantic Fall, Candid Friend, Because Princess Inada is Scolding Me (honestly i love the whole of MoF's soundtrack), and probably also unironically Bad Apple!! (PC-98 Lotus Land Story) and if i get around to it, i'll listen to all the other games' soundtracks too.

but Sonic has Chemical Plant Zone (STH2), Doomsday Zone, Lava Reef Zone, Hydrocity Zone, Sky Sanctuary Zone, and Ice Cap Zone (STH3&K), Sonic Boom (Sonic CD), Can You Feel the Sunshine (Sonic R), Speed Highway, Chao Garden, Open Your Heart, Live & Learn, and several others (Sonic Adventure 1/DX and 2/Battle), and the whole soundtrack for Sonic Rush slaps as well
ugh, Sonic soundtracks in general are bangers. i dunno, i guess i just love chiptune, mostly synthy like Mega Drive (Genesis for the rest of the world) and PC? Sonic and Touhou crush it with chiptune (more synthy than 'blip bloop' like NES or Game Boy)

though, Hideki Naganuma makes great soundtracks too - he made the Sonic Rush soundtrack, but he also made most of the Jet Set Radio soundtrack! (my fav tracks from Jet Set Radio/Jet Set Radio Future are Let Mom Sleep, Funky Radio, Humming the Bassline, and Rock It On)

also i loved LittleBigPlanet's soundtrack, mostly because it's so calming. mostly the original soundtracks though, like The Gardens and The Metropolis especially...
also Persona has such a good soundtrack too. and i loved TWEWY (The World Ends with You) as well.

and a bit out of my comfort zone, but the Hoyoverse games in general have a great soundtrack too. Genshin's soundtrack is really calming for me, while Zenless Zone Zero's lofi when in the open world is some of the best for me!

there's so much, it's kinda like my music taste is sharply half-and-half with Vocaloid/UTAU and video game music lmao

The Gris OST is unlike anything else to me. I'm biased because it's my favourite game oh boy is it on another level for me. Also special mentions to Mouthwashing and Disco Elysium!

I absolutely love the soundtrack for the games even though I never finished any of the games, or played online my favorite has got to be lbp2 soundtrack especially factory of a better tomorrow the whole factory dystopia theme the song got going is just amazing. Also fun fact the guy who created the sound track for the LBP games had also created the spiderverse soundtracks. This guy is just a genius!

Also want to mention an incredibly small game modnation racers. Yea the game is pretty dead unfortunately  , but I really love the soundtrack of the game I don't know how to describe it except that it's funky, and energetic. It fits perfectly with the high pace energy of the races in the game. My favorite has got to go to Win The Race

Lastly Bomberman soundtracks in general had always been a bop especially the ones where it had a more jungle, and drum type of song going on. I can go on, and on about the different soundtracks, but shoutout to bomberman world stage 4 aquabomber theme it has a nice relaxing vibe throughout the whole song.

i had a PS3, but the only other games i had for it were Skylanders Giants and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction lmao

i loved LBP, but it's really sad how neglected it got, then how bad the community went cuz of that. that's also why the servers for all the PS3 games (and Vita as well) got shut down a few years ago. now even LBP3 on the PS4 is gone now ＼(º □ º l|l)/

though ModNation was so cool, but i didn't like how much military stuff was in it? lol i only came back to it on the PSP (cuz of emulation) and i counted six military things when simply customising my mod! so weird
but even then i had the PS3 ver anyways. i swear the soundtrack in ModNation was so cool, especially Ain't Stopping It and the ModSpot theme!!

also back to LBP - i liked all the games, but honestly the first game (and the PSP game too) were my personal favourites, though it's kinda a shame the PSP game didn't have it's own truly original soundtracks dedicated for each theme, but the PS3 one did!
i loved The Metropolis mostly since it's so chill, especially if you turn down some of the sliders. i have a lo-fi mix of LBP1 soundtracks and the Metropolis is my personal favourite of all of them.
though the Islands is good, the Wilderness too, and i remember as a kid i used to listen to the Canyons the most. probably since it had some form of electric guitar in it, lol

my favorite video game soundtrack ever probably has to be the Ultrakill OST. there's so many really really good songs on there, and I love the loudness/fast pace that so many of them have!! My favorite is probably War Without Reason:

I'd also say Rain World has a really good OST too!! Lots of good atmospheric songs, and a lot that just sound really nice too!! I'd say my favorites from it are Threat - Metropolis (Day) and Threat - Heavy Industrial because they're both really good imo and Grumblebum bc I think its funny hehe:
