What social media do you use?

(For the record, I don't consider IM clients, website hosts, or art sites to be social media.)

I only use Tumblr and Bluesky right now. I left Twitter 2 years ago and had a bad time on there anyway, and I was suspended from Reddit after using a VPN and can't remake accounts without getting auto-suspended. I'm not comfortable using Facebook and Instagram because it's too tied to my real life and I don't have any non-familial contacts IRL. So these are currently the only two mainstream sites I use. I'm not super social on Tumblr outside following blogs, and it's the only social media where certain mutuals are on. I'm unfortunately weirdly addicted to doomscrolling it. Bluesky I started using last spring after going to conventions, it's my one mainstream site. But I get addicted to scrolling that too. So I need to detox at some point. :(

I GUESS I also have Dreamwidth, but it's not touched as often because... Well, few people I know really use it. I should probably switch out sites at one point though, like focus on prioritizing DW for more "slow burn dopamine" or whatever. My Insanejournal and Deadjournal accounts are dead because even less people use it than Dreamwidth.

i actually really hate the big social media platforms. if it weren’t for the fact that some of my friends still use instagram and discord, i would’ve deleted my accounts from them a LONG time ago

aside from discord, my preferred social networks are actually forum boards like this. i know, they don’t really count, but they feel more social and community-driven than instagram, that’s for sure. as an artist, two of the “classic”/“web revival” social platforms i want to give a try are newgrounds and sheezy.art

Tumblr: By far my most active, but I mainly post art and finished pieces. i do have a shitposting blog and find webgraphics on there a lot

X/Twitter: So i used to post art on here but then I just decided not to. I bascially only have my account now for the purpose of accessing the content on the site.

Reddit: Im not TOO active on here but I use it sometimes and read posts

SpaceHey: OBVI. this is like myspace revival. and i am so here for it.

Bitview/Vidlii: So I use these a lot as a kinda videoblogging but not in the traditional sesne? like I kinda just post whatever I want on there. Like I post my animations, I post minecraft gameplay, I post random video edits. i dont do this on yt tho

SheezyArt/SketchersUnited/Newgrounds: use these all in the same way as I use tumblr: Posting finished art. I interact on them when im on them but I dont really hang out on them a lot

ToyHouse/Characterhub/UnVale/Artfight: These I use all for OCs cuz that is what they are for!

A few others to mentions

Letterboxd/Last.fm: So I use these but I dont really interact with people on them. Like on letterboxd I do make movie reviews and I do occasionally listen to music on Lastfm but I dont interact on there a lot

Blips.club/Askmos (previously Queryous.me): So I used to use these a lot but I havent been very active (both are also indie small social media kinda sites).
Anyways, the general trend in my social media is that most of them are either indie social media, or mainstream social media that isnt that mainstream. I love the smaller sites cuz they are yk, SMALL, but ima say my fave place to hang out is on sites like this (and some other places too) and my own personal site and other indieweb sites. like its kinda funny, I like the whole neocities/nekoweb community and forums cuz they are explicitly NOT social media. Like things like spacehey are bitview may be small, but they ARE still social media. but with indie websites, people are only gonna visit and interact with me if they want to, and I feel like I could actually make genuine connections with people that i couldnt on social media  

Also a note: I have a feeling part of the reason I feel this way about social media is the fact that my first social media was tumblr (in 2023 i think XDDDD). Tumblr may not be completely non corporate, but its definitely smaller and more community based than other ones, and that probably contributed to my like of smaller decentralized social medias (and the indieweb)
