I love finding albums designed for straight-through listening!

My personal favourites are Marianas Trench's most recent four albums (Masterpiece Theatre, Astoria, Ever After, and Phantoms). I believe it's Ever After which has smooth transitions between tracks, with orchestral interludes.  I don't like many of the songs by themselves or to listen to in a playlist, but as part of their albums they really work for me.

I also recently went down the Hypnospace Outlaw rabbithole and ended up on Gathered Out Of Thin Air by Half-Handed Cloud, which is a weird, interesting album with about a million short tracks that are absolutely not designed for playlists. The only one I have put on a playlist is the track I came for in the first place, Nativity Costume (2000 Year's Eve). I should relisten...

Most of the time I only listen to albums and not playlists, but there are still some albums that stand out for me in terms of listening entirely at once:
  • Incunabula - Autechre
  • Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
  • Computer World - Kraftwerk
  • Time Out - Dave Brubeck
  • Chocolate & Cheese - Ween
  • Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
  • Freedom of Choice - Devo
  • That's the Way of the World - Earth, Wind & Fire
  • Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
Maybe there are more albums, but in general, especially albums between 30 and 45 minutes.

I'll just offer one of my favourites now because I'd have to sit and think a while to come up with them all, but I really  like Shades of Purple by M2M. It's fun and poppy, whilst also having a late 90s-early 00s singer-songwriter-y feeling that makes me nostalgic even though I wasn't alive at the time.

Almost every album by Gorillaz (fine! If I have to choose: Demon Days) but aside from that:

Childish Gambino - "Awaken, My Love!"
Sticky Fingers - Caress Your Soul
Muse - Origin of Symmetry
Little Simz - Sometimes I Might be Introvert
Tyler, the Creator - Igor
The Prodigy - Experience
Fontaines D.C. - Skinty Fia
Injury Reserve - By the Time I Get to Pheonix
Cowgirl Clue - Rodeo Star
PinkPantheress - Heaven Knows
JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown - SCARING THE HOES

A mixed bag but I hope there's some people here I can rave about at least of these with <3

I have like a million I could write here but I tried to keep the list short haha

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots/The Soft Bulletin - The Flaming Lips
People Who Can Eat People Are The Luckiest People In the World - Andrew Jackson Jihad
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Demon Days/Plastic Beach/Humanz - Gorillaz
Hawaii: Part II - Miracle Musical
Lincoln/I Like Fun/Flood - They Might Be Giants
JoCo Looks Back - Jonathan Coulton

Not listed here is my personal all time favorite album, Permanent Revolution by Catch 22. NOBODY brings this album up in like, any discussion, and when they do, it's usually not in the most positive context, but I love everything about this album. It's really short, and has a KILLER opening track. Would love if more people gave this one a chance, its incredibly unique IMO.

What are your favorite/top albums to listen through?

I listen to an eclectic variety of music genres depending on mood but I tend to fall back on some of the following a lot of the time:

Aboriginal Spirituality
Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works
Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Oxygene - Jean-Michel Jarre
The Portal 2 OST
Marylin Manson - Mechanical Animals
KoRn - Untouchables
Circus Contraption - Grand American travelling dime machine
The High on Life OST
SCORN OST
I'd Like You to Be a Mind Reader - Kindzadza
Maize OST
Hibachi Kid - Dream Forever

These three Orbital Albums:
Optical Delusion
Monsters Exist
Insides

There are loads more but I can't think of them all at the moment but the ones I linked are pretty neat  :innocent:
