Hello! I am a very beginner in coding and I only know some HTML+CSS and in process of slowly making my website. BUT! I really really want to make custom chat widget for my twitch streams and i know that people use HTMl CSS and JS to make it, but i have no idea where to start and can't find any good tutorials or anything actually.
So people make code and then put it in Stream elements (it's like a website with tools for streamers) as a custom widget.

If you know something about JS or how these custom twitch widgets work and you have time and a will to answer my questions and help me please let me know!!  :4u:  Not sure if i should write my silly questions here since this forum is mostly about web and oldweb revival, right? So my topic is a bit specific  :ohdear:

I never used Twitch, so I'm not sure if I get the question right, but most people don't create the core functionality themself when more complex tasks are at hand - they rather use pre-done solutions and customize them.
For "Chat Widgets" there seems to be a number available; some of them, like Slime2 are allegedly free to use.

Oh wait! So it's okay to just use f2u chat widget i found somewhere on the internet and just change it a bit to suit my needs? People do that? I am just used to art community rules where it's bad to use other person's work, like tracing and etc  :ohdear:

It really depends!
For software, there are different licenses in use - some of them put rather harsh restrictions, other allow modification under certain circumstances (very often, shipping the source codes, linking the original, and allowing others to do the same - this licenses are often called free/libre/open source), few have no restrictions in regard of use or modification at all.

The Slime2 thing that I linked has following terms of use:
Quote
Do not claim this as your own or sell it
You may modify the simple-chat widget to create your own slime2 widget, and you can freely share or sell your widget
Feel free to post your widget here on the forums: https://forums.slime2.stream/resources/categories/themes.2/

if you put a link to the one you have in mind, I can look if I can tell you more about it. If there is no license or information given along (and you want to be secure), you might have to ask the creator for approval.
