I haven't, and I forgot to mention that I definitely wanna try SMT/Persona because I know they're basically the ones that did the format first.

As some one who loved Pokemon as a young lad. (one of the games that made me realize I actually liked rpgs.) I recomend the dragon quest monsters games. If you want to try a Smt game try Demikids its Atlus attempt for pokemon game.

Super Mario RPG is one of my all time favorites!  It's such a fun time and every time I play it the game just keeps getting better. 

After playing and streaming the remake of Mario rpg I can see why so many people want Geno in smash bros.

I think the GBA-era Fire Emblems are some of the best tactical RPGs of all time. Same with Advance Wars if you've heard of that series.

My personal favorite Fire Emblem is Sacred Stones, Ephraim is awesome.

I think pokemon would be my first jrpg but I would moreso count as Wild Arms 2 as my first jrpg I played. I played it when i was a kid and now maybe a couple of years ago I bought it for myself a physical copy after I got my ps2 from a retro game store. Oh and star ocean I recently bought too.

zOMG i love jrpgs!! most of games in my collection are jrpgs! right now im playing .hack//infection, but i grew up with playing a ton of them.

jade cocoon and legend of legaia are hella underappreciated imo

After geting to the finale boss of Metaphor Refanatzio I can say I enjoyed it but boy howdy, dose it suffer form bloat towards the end of the game. Like man dose this game want you to grind. The last few hours become a slog. But it least thats just how I feel.

Oh hey Bravely default is getting a remaster for the switch 2.  Gota see if this comes to the PC as i don't  want to speed 500 bones plus 80 more bones for video games.

I am not a fan of JRPGs at all, which is weird since I am an avid Pokémon enjoyer! Soemthing about the Pokémon games makes the JRPG format so palatable in a way I haven't encountered since. Closest thing that came to it was Earthbound and even then I got bored by all the battling at some point. There's something I especially dislike about 4v1 battles, like I'm managing too many things at once and can't invest properly in one character.  

Not weird at all. I'm starting to think Pokemon is actually designed a lot more like a card game than an actual JRPG, which would make sense given its TCG origins. That's also why I prefer Gen 1, because it was the generation most designed more like a regular JRPG rather than a card game. Personally I heavily prefer having more party members at once rather than Pokemon's one-at-a-time format which is probably why I always preferred SMT over Pokemon ignore my Pokemon PFP and username

If you also like card games or maybe just dislike JRPGs enough to prefer a more card-gamey format than a straight-played JRPG that might be why.

i really like Pokemon, i've played virtually every generation (of mainline games, at least one of them) but i'm not really competetive. i only blaze through the game's gym leaders so i can be high enough level to get the pokemon i want, then i just chill with them :P

also, i've tried Earthbound and Final Fantasy for the SNES, they're okay, i think. and i might try Digimon at some point, though in general i've gone off PlayStation...

edit: i've never really been a big fan of those with like, four character slots in your party? unless it's something like OMORI (which isn't a JRPG but still) then i just find them pretty overwhelming, or confusing.

Pokemon is great, gen 3-5 are great for their difficulty imo, while gen 6-8 are great just to vibe in :P
and i've thought of trying Digimon, i have a PS2 slim still (it still works too) but it's a late model one, can't homebrew it >:C but it's probably worth it anyways.

i've never really gotten into Final Fantasy mostly since it kinda overwhelms me with the battles and stuff. same with most others that i don't really know the names of.
is there any other kinda RPG/JRPG that's good for me? :3

If you're at all interested to get into more traditional JRPGs and want a game that plays like Pokemon, I could suggest WORLD OF FINAL FANTASY. It's like a simplified, turn-based JRPG with an Active Time Battle system. However, it distances itself from other traditional Final Fantasy games with its artstyle and gameplay loop. The gameplay differs because it presents itself as a 6 character party, except you can stack up to 3 characters on top of eachother, creating different synergies with your stacked characters.
You can also capture monsters just like pokemon, but what makes it differ from pokemon for me is the way you upgrade your monsters by spending level up points in a tree to customize their abilities. Think of it like if almost every pokemon had a different stone evolution.
The story is also cool, it takes you through the history of the Final Fantasy games in a little chibi artstyle.
I play the game on the PS4, but it's also available on Steam (although apparently there's some bugs on the PC port) and the PS Vita. I got a pretty cheap second hand copy, so if you ever see it in the wild, or on a good sale, I recommend it!

Whoa this sounds like a really fun game! It actually reminds me of Fate/Grand Order, whose gameloop I really liked but had to quit due to the overpowering gecha elements. I will keep my eyes out for it, thanks.

jrpgs are a genre i've played a little bit from and always wanted to dive into more but never knew where to start! i grew up playing the pokemon games, but that was about it. lately i've been playing through persona 5 royal which, after nearly four years(!) of on and off playing, i'm finally at the end! i really didn't expect to be sucked into the game when i first picked it up but i REALLY enjoy it. mentally i'm nerding out but the words aren't coming together when i type so i'll just say that this game is frickin awesome! i did pick up persona 4 golden for playstation which will likely be the next game i play. i don't know much about the other megaten/persona games but i'm excited to dive further in as i go! other than that, i've played a little bit of the final fantasy 7 remake but didn't get too far; one day i might pick it up again. the final fantasy series has always intrigued me so hopefully one day i'll get around to playing it (gosh, the amount of things i say this about ^^" fire emblem immediately came to mind, haha).

do the yakuza and nioh games count as jrpgs? i lean toward no, but i see them mentioned in these discussions often so i'm never quite sure . nioh is a game i couldn't really get into. i might give it another chance someday, but i wasn't feeling it at first. the yakuza games, on the other hand, i enjoy a lot.

I think the Like a Dragon/lost judgement spin offs count as jrpgs.
