Keycutters

So I felt like writing a silly pilot for an 80s cartoon today, this is mostly unedited

Three 4th year teens, Andrew, Lesly and Susu, arrive for their first day of summer work at Wiches Keycutters, a small local key cutting and shoe repair shop in Ballynot Shopping Mall. Andrew and Lesly are pretty excited to finally be earning their own money so they can save up for a ski-holiday, but Susu is pissed and wants to go home to play Doom on her Ayaneo.

Old man Raster is not much of an encouragement, he's seen plenty of kids pass through on work experience and they are always more hassle than they are worth; he sets them tracing out customer keys and grinding the blank keys to shape on the cutting machine, all three of them got the job because they are in metal work class. Then he huddles down to the store room where there's a bunch of flashing lights and what sounds like a TV.

"MAN BLAST IT" shouts Andrew, these keys are so boring, I'd give anything for a boot. "Ill give you a boot!" Grinned Lesly as he kicked Andrew in the leg. Andrew dropped the key he was cutting and it slipped down through a crack in the floor to the basement. "OH MAN BLAST IT! GIMMY ANOTHER 85B" Andrew shouted! Susu looked, "Thats the last one Andrew; if Old man Raster finds out you dropped it there will be no sking for you!!"

Everyone eyed each other and then they played rock papers scissors to see who would go down the the store room. All three of them drew paper, so they all decided to go! They creeped the door open and went downstairs looking around carefully in the gloom, Old man Raster was nowhere to be seen. "HEY I SEE THE KEY" shouted Andrew! "sshhhhhhhh you fool!" whispered Lesley. Susu said "I have a plan!" and she shoved Andrew down the stairs towards the key! "I GOT IT!" Andrew shouted in a slightly winded breath as he lay on the floor grabbing the key.

As Andrew crawled to his feet he noticed a strange shape floating in front of him, at first it might have been a spider hanging on a thread but it was too solid, too metallic. "GUYS WHATS THIS!", the others rushed over to shut him up, and Susu said "Wow it looks like a lock!"! Lesly eyed it.. "say it looks a lot like it takes an 85B key! Gimmy that key Andrew!".

As soon as Lesely held the key upto the void in space it snaped into place with a satisfying click that seemed to resonate through the fabric of reality. Then a glowing line cracked down through the air in front of them and widened! "OMG THIS IS NO ORDINARY KEY, ITS A UNIVERSAL DECODER INTO ANOTHER DIMENSION!" shouted Andrew. "You dont say!!" shouted the other two as all three of them were sucked into the gateway of light and into a hypersonic warp portal filled with billions of keys.

They landed with a thud on a giant soft feathery surface, the ground was as black as night, but the sky was clear blue and the wind whipped their hair and their clothes. Above them there were flashes of light as doors opened and closed in the sky, keys fell like rain and shattered into sparks around them, while two figures dived from door to door. One of them leapt towards the kids in a rush of red hair and speaks. Andrew screamed "BLAST", but at the last moment a huge shining elbow slammed into the fiery figure and knocked it to the ground, it tumbled and rolled and fell into a light door in a mess of sparks. Another figure quickly dropped down and locked the door, which vanished with a satisfying thud.

"Whatrrr you kids doing here", announced the figure from behind a mask shaped like a giant eye. He pulled the mask back and Andrew, Lesely and Susu all gasped, "Old man Raster??!". "Yes its me, Old man Raster, if you are here... then that can only mean you have the power to cut universal decoder keys... this is news indeed" he nodded gravely. "Where the heck have you brought us!" demanded Susu as she kicked old man raster in the shin! He laughed "Yes some explanations are in order. We are on the back of the Hyper Crow in the sky between all skies; that figure you saw me battle was Evelyn Dangor, once a master key cutter who became obsessed with unlocking the door Noon Mondays Night Castle!".

"But you stopped him!" grinned Lesley. "Sadly not" Old man Raster looked at the sky moodely, "The Hyper Crow is on its way to the castle now, nothing can stop its arrival, we have locked Evelyn in a distant room, but that wont last forever. Also my name is not Old man Raster here, it's Noon Baby and Im the protector of the pixel people". All three kids decided this was a good moment to bow politely even though they didn't know who the pixel people were. Noon Baby grinned and pointed to the large figure standing behind them with one shining elbow, "That is my trusty helper, Honk and his Elbows of Steel". Honk leaped up and down and shouted "I will eblow evil! With Force!". Noon Baby grinned again, "He's happy. When the Hyper Crow headed for Noon Mondays Night Castle we thought the end was imminent, but knowing you can cut universal dimension keys... this changes everything".

"But what do we do now Noon Baby? We don't even know how we cut a universal dimension key!!" Lesely cried. Noon Baby slapped Lesly and said, "For now you will return to the key shop. Use the key you created and summon a hyper door. Finish today's orders! I have a key shop to run you know, and I wont have you kids costing me business to Keys R Us .. tomorrow we will make our plans!"

Back in the shop Susu grinned as she handed the 85B key over to the customer that hard ordered it, a small gruff businessman who needed it for his e-bike. "Careful with that key, you never know where it might lead you", the man grunted "Well I hope it leads me to my e-bike" before waking out of the shop. "WHAT A NORMIE" Andrew shouted from behind a stack of key blanks.

As they locked up for the day, all three kids looked at each other. Susu admitted it had been more fun than playing Doom, Lesly was worried about the future of the Noon Monday's Night Castle, Andrew wondered if he would still be going skiing. However all of them knew it would be an interesting summer!
