I use it, but embarrassingly not as much as Twitter. I think it's good, but my main problem with how it's designed is that there's no notifications for your reposts.

A lot of people on Twitter say Bluesky is boring, but you gotta wonder why they're saying that. It usually comes with people saying they're just addicted to the negativity and chaos of Twitter, but to me it might just be that there's less people there in general. There are many users, including friends of mine, who have fully migrated to Bluesky, so it's good to have for them. I have my Neocities URL as my handle there, which is fun.

As for Bluesky; it was created by Twitter to be another Twitter - if it succeeds it will be another Twitter and I think Twitter is one of the biggest disasters in web culture. I don't think that being decentralised solves anything because thats a technical solution to what was a cultural problem.

Giving everyone 120 characters to scream at each other in a vast semi-anonymous echo chamber is and always will be a horrible idea - it took us a long time to learn than, and I'm really confused why everyone thinks a happier future for the web will be created by replicating it. "Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results"  :drat:

Extremely based.

I do understand why you would want to use social media if you're a business. I don't understand why you would want to use it as your primary, "I'm just a regular person," way of using the Internet. It's degenerate.

I was a big Mastodon user circa 2017 and I basically just did it because the people I was friends with at that time did it. But they were so in love with it, they thought it was saving the Internet.

It's like if you're buying terrible hard drugs that are ruining your life, it doesn't matter if you get them from your friends across the street or gang members down town. It's still gross.

yea especially now and i ended up going through this thread a bit too.

i dunno, it's just kinda no-opinion for me yet also negative somehow.
it's basically just Twitter but without Elon's batshit that covered the platform. other than it's 'decentralised' it's... like, not much better?

especially the owners behind it, the algorithm, still not bothering to remove endless scrolling etc.
dunno i just don't use it so i don't have a whole lot of a feeling about it.

Hey I like all of these companies! Their power is too unchecked and their reach is too vast and I don't want to live in the spaces they create; however all of them have created services and tools that are hugely important to the web ~ I was saying to someone in a chat today that Google is the most important indie website for me because without Google the web revival would never have needed to exist

it's pretty boring and a complete echo chamber. this time with people in the opposite political direction compared to xitter (in recent years). i guess that's due to the style of posting that these microblogging platforms encourage. they tend to discourage nuanced discussion in favour of giving an insane opinion with zero elaboration (to cause outrage), pretentious single sentence responses or worst of all, massive 100+ reply arguments that literally never go anywhere.

for critical discussions? go to a forum like this. hell, PLEBBIT allows for discussions at a similar pace to xitter and bsky, but has a much higher character limit while visualizing nested replies in a matter that's actually easy to follow.
for actual microblogging, use a more minimal, personal website for letting out little thoughts, like status.cafe. that way you get a page with a little more customization that isn't trying to distract you with slop content.

I have an account, I don't really use it much. It reminds me too much of pre-Musk Twitter, which makes me sad and not sure how to interact with people. Twitter was a site I only used because I felt like I had to. Tumblr was my first mainstream social media, so I'm too used to that format. I don't like the character limit and how everything is searchable. I also see people push that Bluesky is the best social media for posting art since Twitter is shit and Tumblr banned NSFW, but... eh... I tried posting art there, it made me feel like crap and I mostly got bot likes. I'm willing to try again but I just don't like it. If something happens to Tumblr I might jump on the migration like when people migrated from Cohost, but for now my account is just to look at art and follow some news accounts.

I had an account on Bluesky before it opened to the public, and deleted it.

I had created another account toward the end of 2024, and nuked it in the middle of January 2025.

As far as I'm concerned, any platform that resembles Twitter is irredeemably tainted by the original's design flaws, and this includes GNU Social, Mastodon, Misskey, Pleroma, Akkoma, etc.

This is probably elitist AF, but modern social media seems to be geared mainly toward people who would otherwise frequent their local newspaper's comments section, or that of a popular blog, and they tend to post the same ignorant garbage. It is not a coincidence that conservatives have taken over social media, and so vehemently complained that they were being silenced when platforms used to engage in something resembling actual moderation to curb the excesses of right-wing personalities.

The internet, and perhaps the world as a whole, would be better off if everybody's bigoted relatives were not afforded a public platform with global reach.

Started out with mastodon, end up using both Mastodon, and Bluesky.

I joined bluesky mainly because other furries were moving over to bluesky, some from mastodon, and most from twitter, or X.

But i like the fediverse because it is a platform made for the people, by the people. Its "protocol" is very simple to understand, and it truly feels open.

But bluesky is just more centralized, it works as a drop-in replacement for twitter, and thats it.
In my honest opinion, it doesnt need that whole complicated protocol, and decentralization, and what not. It works for most furries without all of it.

I'm over on bluesky just to follow, and interact with my fellow furs.

And i'm on mastodon for my more nerdy things, and mu blog.

And oh yeah, you dont want to know how many domains i've seen that are wasted for a bluesky username.

I used to have an account, basically just to post my art and... uhh... get attention on my work (I feel embarrassed saying that tbh :trash:. ) I heard a lot of good things about it and decided to give it a go. It was around the time loads of people were migrating from Twiter because of Muskrat, so I knew there was going to be some political discussions on there. Luckly I found it easy to curate my feed by blocking a crap-ton of users and keywords and follow topics I wanted to see (art, ocs, omori etc..) I should mention that I have never used Twitter (and never will  :cheerR: )

I'm not going to lie, I met a lot of cool artists on there who were pretty supportive. It wasn't uncommon to get some lovely comments, which I tried to reciprocate but struggled :ohdear:. Also, there were a lot of Japanese artists and illustrators that I followed.

The NSFW content was a shock, at first. I have no issue with people posting or liking that stuff, of course  . I just didn't want it on my feed, espically if I was in public. It wasn't a big issue as I used moderation lists and muted/blocked stuff.

Honestly, the reason why I deleted my account was a culmination of me posting to any site I could and eventually feeling drained, which included Bluesky. I was joining sites like Sheezy.art and Pillowfort, which seemed cool. However, I questioned why I was joining all these sites when I wanted to reduce my social media use. I guess I thought I was widening my reach when in reality I was spreading myself thin. Social media is thoroughly unreliable for artists and I needed to stop deluding myself into believing that. I just didn't want to use Bluesky anymore.

Now I only use Tumblr, Cara, and Newgrounds and now I feel a lot happier.

TLDR: I used to have an account but I got overwhelmed using it alongside other platforms and decided it wasn't worth the effort.

I remember vaugely posting here or similar topic, but in regards to the poll - I had one and nuked it after feeling like it's not for me, but I also thought about using a Bluesky bridge of some form on Mastodon/Fediverse even at the risk of someone getting their knots twisted over something I post in regards to AI since that was what got me to stop using BS as much.

I think it does have its uses but not everyone wants to use it. This is even more emphasized for those that left Twitter/X or whatever name it goes by this week because it was made by the former head of Twitter and moved over to make Bluesky. The last straw for me had been when they had hired on someone that had been into the crypto stuff (personal ick). I want to say later on the idea of there being AI scrapers on that social makes it even less desirable to create an account again - or even a bridge - unless I start AI poisoning the images shared...

I had also heard about the age verification and while it seemed to be just for the United Kingdom/European regions, I still feel some form of negative foreshadowing at this point. This is more especially because of the long list of complaints I have against the current US administration, but that's a completely different subject for another topic... :skull:
