I use it, but embarrassingly not as much as Twitter. I think it's good, but my main problem with how it's designed is that there's no notifications for your reposts.

A lot of people on Twitter say Bluesky is boring, but you gotta wonder why they're saying that. It usually comes with people saying they're just addicted to the negativity and chaos of Twitter, but to me it might just be that there's less people there in general. There are many users, including friends of mine, who have fully migrated to Bluesky, so it's good to have for them. I have my Neocities URL as my handle there, which is fun.

As for Bluesky; it was created by Twitter to be another Twitter - if it succeeds it will be another Twitter and I think Twitter is one of the biggest disasters in web culture. I don't think that being decentralised solves anything because thats a technical solution to what was a cultural problem.

Giving everyone 120 characters to scream at each other in a vast semi-anonymous echo chamber is and always will be a horrible idea - it took us a long time to learn than, and I'm really confused why everyone thinks a happier future for the web will be created by replicating it. "Insanity Is Doing the Same Thing Over and Over Again and Expecting Different Results"  :drat:

Extremely based.

I do understand why you would want to use social media if you're a business. I don't understand why you would want to use it as your primary, "I'm just a regular person," way of using the Internet. It's degenerate.

I was a big Mastodon user circa 2017 and I basically just did it because the people I was friends with at that time did it. But they were so in love with it, they thought it was saving the Internet.

It's like if you're buying terrible hard drugs that are ruining your life, it doesn't matter if you get them from your friends across the street or gang members down town. It's still gross.

yea especially now and i ended up going through this thread a bit too.

i dunno, it's just kinda no-opinion for me yet also negative somehow.
it's basically just Twitter but without Elon's batshit that covered the platform. other than it's 'decentralised' it's... like, not much better?

especially the owners behind it, the algorithm, still not bothering to remove endless scrolling etc.
dunno i just don't use it so i don't have a whole lot of a feeling about it.

Hey I like all of these companies! Their power is too unchecked and their reach is too vast and I don't want to live in the spaces they create; however all of them have created services and tools that are hugely important to the web ~ I was saying to someone in a chat today that Google is the most important indie website for me because without Google the web revival would never have needed to exist

These... these are very good points.

it's pretty boring and a complete echo chamber. this time with people in the opposite political direction compared to xitter (in recent years). i guess that's due to the style of posting that these microblogging platforms encourage. they tend to discourage nuanced discussion in favour of giving an insane opinion with zero elaboration (to cause outrage), pretentious single sentence responses or worst of all, massive 100+ reply arguments that literally never go anywhere.

for critical discussions? go to a forum like this. hell, PLEBBIT allows for discussions at a similar pace to xitter and bsky, but has a much higher character limit while visualizing nested replies in a matter that's actually easy to follow.
for actual microblogging, use a more minimal, personal website for letting out little thoughts, like status.cafe. that way you get a page with a little more customization that isn't trying to distract you with slop content.
