Lately I've been watching a lot less video content, which means I'm reading a lot more than usual. I fell down the rabbit hole of (critical) writing on tech (and often also design), both reading it and writing my own!

Here are a few pieces I really enjoyed:

How and Why I stopped buying new Laptops — Low Tech Magazine

In defense of the poor image — Hito Steyerl

Updating to Remain the Same: Habitual New Media — Wendy Hui Kyong Chun

The Permacomputing Wiki They have in-person meetups too! Near me!

Neural Magazine (I've only been able to browse this at the library so far)

The History of the Web Not sure if this qualifies as critical, but it is interesting!

Digital esthetics, environmental change and the subcultures of computer art — Ville-Matias Heikkilä

The Cyberfeminism Index Pretty well-known I'd say, but I'll still include it. Always looking for recommendations from this!

And some more I have on my reading list:

This Is for Everyone: The Unfinished Story of the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee (the literal inventor of the internet!)

I really enjoyed both Hito Steyerls and Wendy Hui Kyong Chuns writing, so I will seek out more of it! I have a few of their books/texts on my reading list, but it's a little too much to list here!

My website is a shifting house next to a river of knowledge. What could yours be? — Laurel Schwulst

”Western Melancholy“ How to Imagine Different Futures in the ”Real World“? — interakcije

This has really caught my interest, and I want to read a lot more! Does anyone else like to read stuff like this? What are your favourites? Do you like to write as well?
