i'm 25, so never really had a chance to use myspace before it was shuttered. i've had a spacehey for a while now, but i just don't know how to...use it? idk if it's just not the thing for me or if there's something i'm not getting, but it seems like the only thing to do on spacehey is write a blog (which i've noticed a lot of users don't even seem to do), update your status, and make bulletins. is that really it?

i'm sure there's some lesson or greater understanding to be pulled from this a la current social media doing everything it can to keep you on it for as long as possible, whereas back in the day you could more easily run out of things to do and have to log off, but i'll let you be the judge of that. i kind of just want to know more what the day-to-day usage of the site was back in its heyday! thank you! :cheesy::eyes::pc:

For me, it was really about customizing the page to show off to my friends, filling it with all kinds of personality quizzes and Naruto memorabilia lol

honestly that was kind of it yeah xD you could also post photos so a lot of my time on myspace was simply browsing people's profiles and checking out their photos or blogs/posts. scroll a random profile, see another profile picture that looks interesting, click that, scroll around their profile, maybe find some cool stuff you want to put on yours, maybe find a cool song. for me it was really the "stumbling upon" things or people that kept me using it.

I never really used it because I remember it mostly being personal profiles, which wasn't as interesting to me as a proper webpage. So maybe your impression is right. It was great for following bands though, lots of gig information used to be found there!

I didn't too much of an an interest in the internet for a long while despite being lucky enough to have my own computer simply because I didn't know what you could do on it and I already had my video games and cartoons back then so I missed out on the peak of Myspace too unfortunately. I've tried using Spacehey too but I've pretty much ran into the same issues. There just doesn't seem to be a lot to do and people don't seem all that active there either and I feel like the fact that they now made it invite only isn't gonna help all that much in how active it is. I was pretty sure that there was more to do on Myspace than what Spacehey has to offer so I'm not sure it's much of a proper replacement for it either. It's a bit of a shame.

Log in, change the theme, add people, leave some comments, then never look at it again. Everyone online had one just about, but it was more comparable to Facebook and Bandcamp. It was mainly used for keeping up with IRL friends, posting selfies, and hosting music for indie bands.

Nerds hung out on MMOs, LiveJournal, and forums instead.

Back in the days, many bands used MySpace to post songs, sometimes videos, and concert dates; for most of the people I knew, that was the main draw of the platform.

The problem you describe is one that I see as very common for the "revival"/nostalgia/pastiche projects - a platform or medium is only a carrier - but it needs people really using it for something different than just for the sake of using it, or it remains use- and soulless. I'm not sure if thats the case for SpaceHey, though - I don't know much about the platform, maybe you are just missing the right access to it?
