What's your main Operating System?

[bby]

my desktop pc runs modified windows 10 currently, but i plan on building a new computer this year that will run windows 11. i also have a steam deck so i am getting more familiar with linux mint. i've also got some older machines that run windows 98 and windows vista.

one of my plans after the new computer build is to fix the battery on my old gaming laptop and run either mint or another distro on it. i grew up using laptops and while i love having a desktop, there are days where i just want to lay in bed and use a computer instead of a tablet.

After a long battle where I jumped between Windows and Ubuntu, I have finally made my choice and I am using Ubuntu now. The main thing that was keeping me from making the full transition was playing video games but now that I've stopped to take time for my other hobbies, I've switched to Linux completely. It's a bit intimidating but I'm making my marks and I do believe that I will be able to do what I need with the laptop I've setup.

Congratulations.

Depending on what types of games you play, most things are playable on Linux with either wine or proton. I've been an only Linux user for years now and haven't looked back too often. You get used to it and then one day you'll feel as weird about having to use Windows.

i use windows 10 and linux mint 22 cinnamon just as much as each other!

i need to learn how wine works though, i dont plan on moving onto win11 once win10 becomes obselete...

windows 11 :[

ive been trying out linuxmint xfce on an old thinkpad and it is amazing comparatively. almost all of my everyday stuff works on it and the only reason i havent kicked windows out of my main laptop for good is because of clip studio paint

Did I mention I use Arch, by the way?????

I use either Windows 10 or the latest version of macOS. I used to use Arch Linux with a Hyprland DE, but switched back after my nvidia drivers borked and I couldn't fix it after trying for a couple weeks.

Since then I switched to an AMD graphic card so I could now switch back to Linux, but I might wait until SteamOS is better supported on outside hardware and I'm in a better position to mess around with my setup.

macOS is great, it runs smooth and not sure if Apple has walked back on their AI stuff but I don't see anything on their DE that have genAI included, maybe they realised Apple Intelligence is Apple STUPID!!!

Currently my main Laptop runs CachyOS (Arch btw), replacing Linux Mint since it ran like garbage on my main laptop.

And i have a secondary laptop/tablet where i installed Debian on with the KDE plasma desktop.

I've tried Linux Mint intensly, and as mentioned in this reply, it ran like garbage. My nvidia card freezed when i updated the graphics driver, and video playback stuttered very annoyingly. But with CachyOS everything runs butterly smooth now on my laptop, and even got a performance boost with it, and the KDE desktop.

I've been using Linux Mint for some years now. Sometimes on a new machine I try a different distro, but I keep coming back to Mint. It's not exciting, but it lets me do what I want to do with my PC.

Software that just does what it's supposed to do and doesn't try to sell you anything is a rare treat.

Just like a boring person, I use Windows 11 on my PCs. It came with my laptop and desktop anyway (and sadly), so why bother changing the operating system? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It would've been the end of the story if I didn't spice their GUIs up later on once I discovered Retrobar and Open-Shell. Now gives my minimalist-looking computers the XP theme we remembered :3

On the other hand, in terms of Apple computers, I use System 6 and 7 for my Classic II and PowerBook 180, although I do want to get a system that runs on System 9 so I can fully enjoy its early 3d graphics capabilities.

Right now, my set up is Windows 11 on my desktop and Linux Mint on a side laptop. I've been setting myself up to switch to Kubuntu on my Desktop, but I can't do it until I find a solution that works with my film scanner. I will be getting a Macbook Neo for Christmas this year, so hopefully that'll be the main solution. Once I have that figured out, I'll be done with Windows entirely.

I use Linux Mint XFCE. I use the Dark Ice theme installed but modified a bit and for the window manager, a blue Solaris theme someone made.
