SurfClub Guides E-Zine #2
Good noontide forum people We will be hosting a new zine event starting now! The Surf Club E-Zine is a free online community-written zine containing tutorials, guides and other info provided by Surf Club webring members! (If you're on this forum you are prob a surf club member ) The focus of the zine is to share guides and tutorials about things you know; primarily in the interest of promoting the web as a free and open repository of knowledge, enthusiasm and art.Issue #2's special theme is: GFX! Guides and articles related to web graphics, pixel art, 3D renders and anything else visual! Also the unofficial theme is: SKULLS! Id like to pose some questions that might get you thinking about the subject! Why are site graphics the way they are? Why do you pick certain colors, why are certain sizes used? Why is the web revival full of skulls? Are there types of graphics that only work a personal website and not on social media? If you had never seen another website, what kind of graphics would you create? How does sharing graphics change their meaning? Are interactive embeds (like web gardens) graphics? In this issue we will accept both guides, articles and general reactions to graphics ~ here are some title ideas to give you a sense of what could be possible (you don't have to do these, they are just examples)- How to make an animated site badge in blender (Why does no one do this??)
- WTF are SVGs?
- Painting rocks, an educated experience!
- Animating avatars in Whirled Online (Yes it still exists!)
- Image glitching in Audacity
- Why I love/hate 88x31 badges
- What if the web had no text?
- This image is too big for Facebook
- How to select images for a gallery!
Now I know what you're thinking "Dood I don't know anything", well Im here to tell you "yes u do" so go write your entry; things that seem obvious to you might seem totally impossible to someone else.
The e-zine is a web based zine so most submissions should be a webpage or mini website. You can create your guide entirely in HTML yourself (or use this template), including providing images, videos, audio, scripts or 3D elements. However please make sure your whole guide is contained in a single folder, and avoid hotlinking for the sake of archivability. I expect most guides will be a single page, but you can use as many pages as you like.
When the zine is published all the guides will be framed together and be available to view on MelonLand.Net! (Along the lines of the former YW E-Zine)
Starting from a blank canvas is scary so Iv attached a template you can use below, but the template is by no means mandatory
The deadline for submissions is October 7th 14th 2024! good luck
Check out the last e-zine! https://melonland.net/zine/issue-1/
If you plan to do a particular topic - I recommend posting about it below so that you don't end up conflicting with someone else, or maybe if you like you could team up to work on a guide together!
You can attach completed submissions in a forum PM to me, or send them to webmaster@melonking.net anytime before the deadline!
