does the internet show up in your dreams?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately! I saw a tumblr post about phones in dreams and I've been thinking about this ever since! I'll use phones/computers in dreams, but also specific websites will show up in my dreams. I've had dreams where I was using twitter or tumblr, dreams about Inaturalist, or about various forums. i've also had to write html and solve captchas in dreams. the most common website to show up in my dreams is inaturalist -normally I have a nightmare where there's a really special rare insect but I can't get a photo of it and then when I post the very blurry image everyone gets mad at me for how bad the photo is as mentioned in a previous post, last night, I had a dream about the everyone website!

do you dream about the internet? i always wonder how common it is. which websites show up most in your dreams? which devices? what are you doing in them? are they pleasant? are the dreams all of the modern internet you use now, or do you ever have dreams where you were on earlier versions of the internet/websites?

Ive had dreams where I was writing HTML before, But Its never been through the use of a computer or other device in my dreams.  Typically how it appears is a sort of all encompassing area where the writing just sort of happens as I am wanting it to in the dream. Ive never had one of these dreams go bad though it has basically all been neutral to good dreams in relation to the internet when it appears in a dream for me.

yeah, while I use a computer in my computer dreams, things usually just magically happen as I think about them, instead of like, normally how a computer works!

Using a computer is just too unwiedly to be satisfying. Mind controlling them would be 10 times faster at least.


The whole cast of a niche RPG maker forum appeared in a dream of mine. So like 10 American computer nerds having a LAN party. Finally meeting up to make one big super RPG.
I never saw any pictures of the people, nor heard their voices (through podcasts, streams, whatever). But the power of imagination certainly filled those gaps and made that scene feel very real.

yep! although, weirdly enough it's not very frequent or i just can't remember them. i guess subconsciously, i know i'm online too much and i want to escape it while i sleep  .

usually when i dream of it, it's more just like the page popping up into existence and not really viewed through a device. i guess like if i was looking at a site on my vr headset.

i can't remember too many examples of specific sites, but a couple that come to mind are a search engine or a personal site of mine or someone i know. i don't think i've ever dreamed of a specific social media either: it's usually just a generic one. like if i dream of a search engine, it doesn't look like google or anything. so it's kinda cool.

sometimes i dream of making it too. although because it's a dream, it's more like something in the matrix lol.

I dream about the internet a lot in dreams - I dream about using it on specific devices sometimes like phones or laptops or my PC but also it gets really abstract/surreal where (like others have said) websites will sort of just appear as it's own thing in the space of the dream, and I will be somehow viewing a webpage or watching a YT video but it's just in the room as it's own entity without any device attached to it.

I dream about messaging people a lot too.

Specific things that show up are Discord, What'sApp and YouTube aswell as random web 1.0 looking sites.

Quite often. There are some dreams that I think take influence from the internet (and are completely nonsensical) but there's one that stuck out to me that involved the internet.

I was on a train. Dunno where or when, but I remember I was standing. I had a large brown trench coat on, and was about 5 inches taller than I was in real life (Im 6' 0''). People kept looking at me occasionally, but their faces didn't make sense to me. I'd look up every now and again to see a different scene out the train window. A green serene field, a city scape, or the inside of a tunnel.

The main thing was with the dream, I was on my phone, scrolling Discord. I use Discord often to communicate with my friends, and I cant remember anything about the messages I scrolled through in my dream. I kept changing servers to ones I didnt know, just scrolling up and up in announcement channels over and over again. Until, right at the end of the dream, before I woke up, I read a message from a specific friend we call Kiwi. It was a picture of a house they built in Minecraft, where they had said "rate my house". When I read it, it was like I zoomed in and went fullscreen, but in real life. I woke up after reading the message.

Later that day, Kiwi sent a message with a picture of their minecraft house they were building. The house looked incredibly similar to the one in my dream, but instead of acacia wood for its trimmings, they had used dark oak. (The house in the dream was mainly made of oak + acacia). Their message wasn't the same, they said something like "rate my house building", or something. This was about 6 hours after I had that dream, I hadnt told anyone about it.

I uh. Im not sure what the dream meant to this day to be honest. I know dreams don't often have meaning, but. This one stuck out to me. There was no direct meaning, no forcible message.. just a prophetic dream stating my friend would post a message about their Minecraft house.

This happens to me sometimes. I'll have a dream about a vague situation and it will happen during the day. The dreams are never completely accurate, but I dreamed about fighting a bully of mine in middle school the night before i'd go to school and get my glasses punched off of me and broken, by not the same kid I dreamed about, but a friend of his. Dont wanna be the "I saw it in a vision" guy but I feel like I have and it is strange LMAO

Sometimes but it's often abstract. I dreamed about my neocities a couple of times and each time I woke up, I immeditaly took notes and it probably influenced how it looks today and there's no doubts it will continue !

I've had so many dreams of replying on forums way back. More recently, I've had dreams of seeing news about a certain show I follow and then looking for everyone's reactions. I think the way the internet appears in my dreams reflects the relationship I have with it: As a space where I connect with others based on my interests.

weird, i always dream of game consoles but never computers or phones, or any other tech for that matter. and its never the same console, it's always a different generation of playstation, no xbox ever... no i don't go on the internet on these consoles either lol. on an unrelated note, using twitter on tumblr? that sounds like a really horrifying nightmare.

I literally just woke up and had to post here...

I dreamt about Melonland last night    but it was a kinda nightmare in a weird way.

The dream started out abstract and inexplicable; I was trying to get to a room in my house but the hallway/door kept morphing into a grocery store, then back into a hallway then into an alleyway that led into a mall, but each time I kept getting frustrated that I couldn't get into this room because apparently that is where my pet cockroaches were and I needed to feed them (even tho irl they're just in my living room). Anyway there was a scene in the dream where I was trying to load up MelonLand, but for some reason I'd been banned from using it - the only message I got was that someone had reported me and the comment was used to ban me - but the comment was super innocent and I remember feeling devastated because this is one of the few things that makes me feel happy and at ease - posting here - so I went into some deep depression and the dream morphed into me being trapped on a boat in an ocean but it was also an elevator... then I woke up!

it shows up more often than i thought!

when i was younger, some of the old forums (and the games that went with them) would appear. sometimes i would actually reply to posts in the dream, but most of it was just browsing through different threads. from what i can remember, i don't think any of them were actual threads present on the forums; pretty interesting how the brain is able to make things up on the fly like that in more recent years, it's the same but instead of forums, it's usually discord channels or the twitter home feed. however, since i've started using both less frequently, the appearances in my dreams have also decreased. i think what's most common nowadays is text conversations showing up, though even that is not very frequent! i kept a dream journal as a project for my high school psychology class before, and i've considered starting again but specifically for these internet-related dreams.

The internet in general never shows up in my dreams, but I do have a lot of direct messaging show up. Like with my boyfriend or a friend over Whatsapp or discord. It's always so weird, sometimes I'll even be in a vc in my dreams.
I'ts usually nothing pleasant tho

i think i've used search engines in a dream before? usually i only have technology in my nightmares, and i use it to try to warn other people about whatever's happening through texting or look up how to solve a problem. i can read in my dreams, so everything is more or less coherent other than following dream logic.

i don't think i've had a dream where i was just using the internet normally, though.
