a classic forum thread! my desktops aren't terribly interesting, but here they are anyway:

the desktop of my modern pc, which runs windows 10. i usually hate desktop icons and prefer to launch programs from the taskbar or powertoys run instead, so it's totally bare:

and finally my phone's home screen, which i've customized to death. it runs android 11, but you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at it!

I change wallpapers fluctuatingly (ranges from infrequently to at least once a week), but current setup. Some common programs and three of the webpages I like to get back to there (two are the website building ones). Would eventually like to do Pawprinting (similar to Oekaki drawing forums) but energetically challenged to the point of not grabbing the drawing tablet.

Using a fork of ClassicShell called Open-Shell to give the classic start menu. I wasn't a fan of the Windows 11 one... Cursor while not shown is giant and the inverted colors mouse pointer for easier visibility.

Heres my current desktop, i honestly think this is one of the best ive ever had (mostly cuz of the soul eater wallpaper) 




also heres a kingdom hearts theme desktop i had in January which i got rid of because it was a pain to line of those shortcuts and for some reason im always listening to music when i take these screenshots.

I just installed Linux Mint on my main PC the other day, and here's my new desktop!



As you can see, I've got a Windows XP theme installed (because I think it's honestly the most attractive OS, and it's certainly the most nostalgic for me). And when I found this desktop wallpaper earlier today, I was absolutely floored: it's a combination of Doctor Who and Morrowind, two things I'm utterly obsessed with!!

The only other thing of note I can think of is that I went and added a Sleep shortcut on my desktop, because I missed the functionality on my old OS (Windows 11) where I could just right-click the Start button and send the computer to sleep from there without having to wade through a number of other menus

more recently been loving early MacOS X and Windows XP (with Royale Blue theme i think?) and Windows Longhorn too, plus blue's my favourite colour in general especially like this kinda blue. okay the blue glass effect is more noticeable with my cursor my browser and window borders not shown qwq

using MX Linux with XFCE still looking for a good taskbar to use, but since it links to a dead image then it's just transparent - so it has a drop shadow effect just above it too.
definitely did heaps of modifications to stock MX and XFCE though and also have a blue glassy cursor too !

Boring old Devuan 5 daedalus running mate desktop. Nothing much to see here! Tend to stick with mate as I find its menu structure the fastest to navigate and the file manager caja is excellent.

The main one is a CRT, has my icons on it, and I use it for my main programs.

OH MY GODS... it's like i'm using my uncle's PC again... brings good memories   
can't even imagine how cool it looks on CRT in real life!
and i really love your spooky wallpaper! it reminds me of point-and-click "scary" games i used to play as a child! not sure if i played Spooky Mansion, but still - the feeling is very familiar :3

i'm still struggling with 2 old laptops my friend gave me, because i need to repair them... 

yep, wallpaper is from my beloved Morrowind!   

i don't know WHY, but the left bottom corner is so UNCOMFORTABLE for me?! the cursed corner... the corner of shame... 

and also, i always felt very strange with bottom/top bars... like... what... maybe because i'm left-handed, though i use my mouse with my right hand? (bar on the right side is a crime for me)

and sorting things in a strict grid inside of the folders is unnatural to me for some reason?
ofc i have many other programs and files, but for the most important ones that i need to access very often - there is always an icon on desktop!

so many mysteries...

I got my old IBM Thinkpad T60 back from the shop after getting the mainboard replaced. Apparently the SSD had crapped out, too, so I've upgraded from 500GB to 1TB, installed Debian GNU/Linux, and set it up just the way I like it.

Openbox with no windows open, just some Window Maker dock apps showing battery status, local weather, and the time/date.

I had this wallpaper lying around. I think my wife had found it; she says it reminds her of a character from my fiction.

Love me some GNU Emacs. I could have half a dozen separate Emacs sessions running without using the daemon and they'd still use less RAM than Firefox, let alone Chromium.

I feel like I've changed enough about my desktop currently to warrent making another post. Still using XFCE, Debian, etc, but I've made a lot of new icons since then and rearranged some stuff!

Linux Mint 22.1 with Win7-Tux-Noir theme.  It's the closest any desktop environment I've actually used has gotten to Windows 7, my favorite version of Windows.  Honestly, I wish I knew why the world turned away from inventive and beautiful to corporate and minimalist... which is probably a bit ironic to say given the somewhat minimalist setup plainly visible in the attachment, but I would argue that's rainmeter minimalism.  And rainmeter is nostalgic as heck!  I actually kinda wanna start using my laptop with its smaller screen more often.  I forget where I was going with this, little blazed rn.  Love you all!

It looks like this. The background changes on its own every 6 hours or so, each wallpaper is a different region art/cutscene from Rain World. I really like all the linux desktops I see in this thread, a lot of them are quite pretty
