Hi Melon! Thank you so much! These are excellent questions!
Part of my inspiration actually came from this stamp:
LOLOL
In all seriousness though, I have always loved the idea of a dive bar-like atmosphere that one could drop by any time, any where, and talk with any one. So I made one! And then I put it in space. And then made it
GAY.
I am QTPOC and I love queer and trans bars/spaces irl and the revolutionary acts that have occurred in places like this and beyond. So I wanted to honor this with something online. And now here we are!
As for the forum software, here was my thought process: I initially wanted to go with something independent like Simple Machines. However, I don't have my own domain nor the means to put a lot of money into this project (right now). So that led me to a couple free options. First was ProBoards, which is something I am most familiar with and that a lot of other people are probably most familiar with, too. But eh. Kind of want to try something new. I like to live on the wild side.
So I went looking elsewhere and discovered Jcink, which is something I am not familiar with AT ALL. I hear it is quite popular in rp communities though. And as a former-ish rper, I kind of like that little nod to rp even if people wouldn't actually rp in my forum (if they don't want to).
So far, so good! It's a free account though so no mature content. Since the population is adults, if discussing darker topics is something people want, there is the option to upgrade. But again, I am broke so there's that.
I'm curious how your experience has been! Especially with a larger established community! I'm so glad places like this exist on the net!
